YVYNYL Presents: Hott Tubb Opening for Wise Blood & Supreme Cuts at JB’s Sept. 2

Let’s face it. Keeping a full band together these days can be more trouble than it’s worth. That’s why it’s not surprising to see a tsunami of solo artists and duos creating some interesting music with the help of modern day technology. Hott Tubb is Philly-based lo-fi duo Sammy Marion and Phil Cote backed by their hard-hitting, trusty drum machine. They also combine acoustic guitar and synths ranging from ominous to playful to make some experimental and often danceable tunes with lyrical lines that burrow into your brain creating mantras that can be used for coping with the stresses and strains of everyday life. You can download their full-length album Cassette for free HERE (which is definitely worth a listen). They’ll also be opening this evening’s dope YVYNYL showcase at Johnny Brenda’s with Pittsburgh’s Wise Blood and Chicago’s Supreme Cuts, who just released their Trouble EP via Small Plates Records (“a label-based cooperative from the hearts and minds of IGIF and YVYNYL”). Johnny Brenda’s, 1201 N. Frankford Ave., 9pm, $10, 21+ – Alexis V.
