Girls Rock Philly Benefit – Girls to the Stage at FUC April 29

Girls Rock Philly has always been a positive influence towards empowering young women with music education, creative thinking, and leadership skills. And they’ll be contributing to it further with the release of Girls to the Stage, a compilation created to celebrate and promote Philly’s up-and-coming female performers and “to empower other ladies to pick up an instrument and join ’em!” A number of well-known local indie acts like Amanda X and Mannequin Pussy have contributed to the album with all proceeds from its sales and the event benefitting the worthwhile organization. R5 Productions will be hosting the release at First Unitarian Church tonight, and it features the two aforementioned bands headlining. There will also be sets from Fake Boyfriend, Roya, VVeed VVolf, and Shannen Moser. First Unitarian Church, 2125 Chestnut St, 7PM, $8-$10, All Ages (Graphic by Michelle Krysztofiak) – Bill McThrill
