Far-Out Fangtooth Set the Mood at JBs May 29

FAR-OUT FANGTOOTH

Known for taking the lo-fi approach with production, the onstage antics of moody, dark, and “flashy” local punks Far-Out Fangtooth, who are set to open for Times New Viking tonight at Johnny Brenda’s, are appropriately trippy with a hint of essential dread. Tracks like “Pathways”, found on their self-titled 7”, are lyrically concise with mood altering instrumentation. Fangtooth’s thumping drums with well-placed reverb renders riffs simultaneously melodic and dissonant. In a mood fostered similarly by Soars, “Pathways” latches onto the psyche with each cymbal crash and shred, leaving the listener transported, entranced. With effective garage-y malaise, “Why Don’t You Cry” will entice the lovelorn in leather jackets, causing any beer-sipping crowd to bob their heads, maybe more. Grab your favorite black tee and rock out with Far-Out Fangtooth tonight with Cassie Ramone (a la Vivian Girls), and the Babies. Johnny Brenda’s, 1201 Frankford Ave., $12, 9pm, 21+ – Dianca Potts
