A new single, “Class Killer,” recently arrived via Josh Levinsky & The Shmoos. The song occupies a conversational tone as lines are punctuated by backend exclamations. A confident & somewhat cocky narrator walks through the halls in an agitated manner as an acoustic, garage-punk tone is achieved. Opposing viewpoints are traded back & forth as a thoughtful aggression is released.
Time Rival “Brittle Stars”

Sipper’s “OMG” is a bitter secret; “Sipper” EP out today
Sipper’s Joe Beerman is, as the lyrics of his new track suggests, a modern man – his voice has the breathy quality of Iron & Wine’s Sam Beam with the wandering, occasionally growl adjacent vocal delivery of Stephen Malkmus. Channeled simultaneously over stumbling, guitar driven indie, these elements give his new single “OMG” the quality of a hushed secret you weren’t supposed to hear; the song is dripping with an intimacy that’s as authentic as it is explosive. As its accompanying visual suggests, it’s the perfect soundtrack to a party you don’t want to be at, a fun indie romp wrapped up in malaise. Watch the video premiere below, and be sure to catch Sipper’s debut EP, out today (April 10th) on Invertebrate. – Connor Beckett McInerney (@b_ck_tt)
Final Mumblr Album Available for Streaming & Purchase
Philly quartet Mumblr appears to have released its swan song, Genie. The band continues to create a diverse, intriguing sound. Expressing vulnerability and volatility, these songs engage with their melodic yet menacing/fragile/frenetic/funky tones. Casual, observational lyricism makes quick, gravitational shifts, instilling urgency. Ranging from calm to crushing, there’s a poetic, unabashed strength that leaves a lasting impression. Thanks for being original and kicking ass, fellas!
Gelax Band – Fantasy Indie Rock Live at Handlebar 04.21
They call it “Fantasy Rock” and I call it very unique and creative songwriting. Combining indie rock with dream pop and some kind of dark avant-garde mood swings is how I describe Gelax. Their main influences are Depeche Mode and Radiohead and they combine that with some all-around mysticism to put together their latest single “Life”. It’s a powerful track with very interesting instrumentation. It would be intriguing to see this track brought to life with a live performance which you can do on April 21st at Handlebar in Kensington Market. – Kris Gies
Nightjacket unveil captivating new single “Waking Up With You,” play the Troubadour on 4/23
Holland Belle shows her unabated love with complete abandon on “Waking Up With You.” The deeply romantic new single by indie-rock trio Nightjacket is the perfect vehicle for Belle to reveal her innermost desires. “Ooh, waking up with you/there’s so much more to find,” Belle sings with her delicate, yet commanding croon, a sweet affirmation that pairs lovingly alongside the band’s brisk, charging pop-rock arrangement. Her lyrical sentiments—evoked with plainspoken simplicity—were inspired after she moved to Berlin to follow the love of her life.
“Waking Up With You” is the first single off of Nightjacket’s debut full-length, Beauty in the Dark, which is due out on May 31. There’s plenty of chances to catch the trio perform in the coming weeks: first at the Troubadour on April 23, followed by a show at the Bootleg on May 7. Juan Rodríguez
Naytronix Releases “Come Back” off new LP
Nate Brenner, aka Naytronix, just released the single “Come Back” off his forthcoming album, Air, and it’s a fantastically mixed, warm and pleasing jam that pushes the limits of psych pop. The percussive backbone is blessed with drummer Hamir Atwal’s hard-to-mimic snappy jazz touch. The album features some other Oakland favorites, including Madeline Kenney and Tune-Yards’ Merrill Garbus. After his work scoring Sorry to Bother You, we’re not surprised. “Come Back” is a killer teaser and we can’t wait for the full album, out June 7th on Botcave records. – Michelle Kicherer, Associate Editor

Fire is Motion bring their acoustic folk-pop to Elsewhere on 04.27
Union Jersey group Fire is Motion’s 2017 EP Still, I Try, put their dream pop and folk combination on full display and gives you plenty of reasons to check them out. The group recently toured the Midwest and is now back in the Tri-State Area prepping for shows in Brooklyn, the first of which will be at Elsewhere on April 27. The group appears to be growing both in recognition and band members as they have added a fifth guitarist in Shannon Moore (for a few shows for now it seems.) The music is seamless in its delivery of rich acoustic arrangements, and emotive vocal crescendos which, coupled with several minor chords help create a style that’s at once moody and light. Fire is Motion is keeping their story going, one performance and band member at a time. – Rene Cobar

New Track: “Pluto” – So Totally
in the shape of…, the forthcoming album from So Totally, is scheduled to arrive on May 3, and the band recently shared its lead single “Pluto”. An initial, luminous glide creates a sense of lightness that gradually gives way to the afterburners of murkier fuzz. There is a relatable outlook within the spacey, shoegazing framework – one of feeling temporarily lost and out of sorts among your peers, while wanting the comfort of attention as you drift off.
