On the Move w/DRGN KING & Busses at PhilaMOCA June 28

Posted on:

Dominic Angelella leads the eclectic indie-rockin’ DRGN KING performing tonight at PhilaMOCA. The group blends elements of rock, electronica and hip hop, and the mix results in a rambunctious brand of music that harnesses a groove and fuses it with Angelella’s “round up the troops vocals.” It’s a sound that’s easy to back – part sleazy, part stealth and perpetually on the move. The psychedelic-tinged rock trio of Busses builds off comfortable, familiar vibes and then breaks away into lesser-traveled territory. These two locals will be combining forces this evening with Vermont power trio Bird Name. PhilaMOCA, 531 N. 12th St., 8pm, $8 – $10 Donation, All Ages – Michael Colavita

DIY Dance Pop from both coasts: Clintongore

Posted on:

The name may make you think they’re making some political gesture, but trust me… Clintongore‘s music is far from anything that down to Earth. The San Fran and Brooklyn based dance-pop duo makes interplanetary rave suitable for launching spaceships and late night stargazing parties. Chris Crawford and Sierra Frost together craft a Pop bounce and indie grittiness with their drum machines and Roland Junos (recorded right in the belly of the Brooklyn’s DIY scene – at Death By Audio). The band’s been touring out on the West coast right now, but will be back in NYC later this year. In the meantime, check out their new self-titled full-length up on their Bandcamp, and a recent video for single ‘Homesick’ here. – Mike Levine (@Goldnuggets)

James Rapp of The Rotaries releases solo ep “Twenty Moon”

Posted on:

James Rapp (lead singer/guitarist of The Rotaries) just released a solo EP “Twenty Moon” earlier this month, which sounds quite different from what we have come to expect based on his band’s sound. Instead of the Strokes-tinged rock & roll that The Rotaries have become associated with, “Twenty Moon” is more delicate in approach and features moody wurlitzer keys, acoustic guitars, and generous amounts of delay. Opening with “Twenty”, Rapp takes on Muswell Hillbillies era Kinks complete with sing-songy acoustic guitars and thumping bass and snare. Songs like “Jelly Jar” (streaming) and “Leaf Pile” feature the young singer’s warm and enveloping baritone voice. Without a single song going past the 4-minute mark, the record is short, sweet and ready for your stereo. – Sam Kogon (@samkogon)

Bailiff recently shot a live video with the talented Ben Handler as part of his Afterhours Session series. The band is currently putting the finishing touches on their new album, and "Love Like Mine" should make an appearance.

You can catch Bailiff on July 13th at Schubas.

Swim Ignorant Fire

Posted on:

New York’s Rok Lok Records recently released the latest cassette from Swim Ignorant Fire (aka Stephen Holliger), Belly of the Whale. The release spans 30 minutes in three separate tracks, and is filled beautiful tones and moments. Holliger’s music can best be described as ambient, and it is so easy to get lost in the incredible textures he creates.

Cotillon Announce August Residency at The Echo

Posted on:

Here at The Deli, we are big fans of Cotillon, having premiered their most recent EP, White Roses, in March, and announced the band’s past residency at Harvard and Stone. Cotillon is one of those special bands that spent time crafting their specific sound behind the scenes before bursting onto it, all the while building up a local community of bands and fans alike. As the garage rock scene bubbles up from the underground, they seem to be leading the charge in their own way. They have proven to be hard working, passionate and talented, and certainly have a reputation for knowing how to have a good time. It’s these efforts, coupled with deeply personal, impossibly catchy songs that immediately charm and endear the listener, that has garnered them a coveted month-long residency at The Echo this August. Some of the bands announced so far that will be joining them each Monday night are Halfbluud, Jeffertitti’s Nile (a recent Artist of the Month winner), Tropical Popsicle, The Shivers, Dead Ships, and Tapioca and the Flea. Check out the John Hughes-inspired video below for “Talk to Her” off the ‘White Roses EP’ and head to The Echo every Monday night in August to see them live. – Jacqueline Caruso
