Sydney Wayser and Lucius headline Deli “Roots Music Stage” at The Living Room on 10.19
Whimsical and playful, with a touch of angst and a heavy dose of emotion, Sydney Wayser’s music sings like lullabies throughout the contemporary folk scene of New York City. The young singer-songwriter’s sweet, engaging voice can be likened to Feist or Regina Spektor’s, filling up songs that conjure up images of a sunny day in Paris. Her second full-length album, The Colorful, is a lush mix of melodies and chords that intricately tell stories of her youth and experience. Sydney will be headlining The Deli’s CMJ Roots Stage on 10.19 with Lucius, My Cousin the Emperor, Ursa Minor & more artists. Full lineup to be announced soon.
Punk Rock from Brooklyn: Methodist
Volatile Brooklyn trio Methodist displays a penchant for angst-ridden punk rock with edgy indie rock inclinations on their eponymous six-track excursion. Demonstrating an abundance of stinging riffs whose healthy balance of vitriolic virtue and jagged melody allows the deft rhythm section the freedom to flavor up their aggressive attack as they see fit, the hard hitting demeanor and general sense of disdain this act exhibits propels a musical journey reminiscent of acts such as Black Flag, Fugazi, and The Bronx. Methodist doles out serious punk rock attitude with electrifying immediacy and wiry fury spearheading their cerebrally minded attack. www.myspace.com/methodist –Mike SOS

Uh Huh Her Releases New Album ‘Nocturnes’ October 11 + Headlines Keep-A-Breast Tour
You’d think after performing sold-out shows this spring and summer across the U.S. that Uh Huh Her —Leisha Hailey and Camila Grey—would be worn out. But that is not the case for the electro-pop sirens, who are gearing up for the release of "Nocturnes", due out October 11, and prepping for the Keep-A-Breast Tour begining October 8th. The first single from Nocturnes, "Debris" (produced by Grey and guitarist Brad Ackley), sets the tone for the 11-track album, which is described as a blend of “moody dance pop with guitar and synth-driven electro.” Just in time for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the duo will headline the first-ever Keep-A-Breast Tour, which supports breast cancer awareness and prevention. The trek kicks off October 8th in Philadelphia, PA and wraps up November 6th in Portland, OR. – Nicole Dawley
Box Five Presents: A Dream within a Dream: The Edgar Allen Poe Tour
Appropriately, during the month of October, Box Five will be presenting an evening celebrating one of New England’s most eccentric, brilliant and creepy writers, Edgar Allen Poe. A Dream within a Dream: The Edgar Allen Poe Tour will debut at the Somerville Theater on October 5th at 8:
They are putting on a concert in nearly every city Poe called home (Boston MA, New York NY, Philadelphia PA, Baltimore MD, and Richmond, VA), inviting both local and nationally-touring ensembles to perform new, specially-composed musical works inspired by the author’s short stories and poems, in addition to their regular repertoire.
The acts include:
Why Are Those Girls SO LOUD it’s cos we’re jewish
UnAmerika’s Sweetheart Karin Webb
At the end of each concert, the evening’s ensembles will collaborate on a sewn-together musical performance of one of Poe’s most famous poems, The Raven. Each act will set 3-6 of the stanzas to music, which will then be performed in sequential order as a whole, complete work. A “dream within a dream” that had been floating through Box Five frontwoman Mary Bichner‘s head since 2009, the tour was finally made a reality through the collaborative efforts of jazz-pop chanteuse Alexandra Day and smoldering piano songstress Ms. Fridrich, who will be joining Box Five at nearly every concert.
Wednesday, October 5th @ 8:00pm (doors @ 7:30pm) | Somerville Theatre (55 Davis Square, Somerville, MA 02144) | $11.00 All Ages |
($10.00 + $1.00 theatre restoration fee), and can be obtained via the Somerville Theatre Box Office between 4pm and 8pm daily, or by visiting the official Somerville Theatre website (http://www.somervilletheatreonline.com/).

The National Underground Grand Opening, 10/15
There’s nothing particularly underground about this renowned celebrity hotspot and music venue co-owned by Gavin DeGraw and brother Joey. Featuring roots, rock and country acts seven days a week, this formerly New York-only hangout has recently branched out to Nashville – 105 Broadway to be precise. They’ve already scooped up some of Nashville’s favorites – Thief, Lions For Real and Evan P. Donohue (who plays Oct. 4) have scored slots on The National Underground calendar. But the venue’s making it official with the Grand Opening party on Oct. 15. Hilary Williams, The Cold Stares and Joey DeGraw are scheduled to dole out tunes for the evening.
