Multi-instrumentalist Barrett Lindgren records under the moniker Ghost/Light. Honestly, he’s probably the guy in drunken late night jam sessions who can grab any instrument inspiring others to join in. On New Beast, Lindgren creates some emotive, lush orchestral folk/pop while impressively playing the banjo, guitar, ukulele, bass, drums and percussion, keyboard, glockenspiel, chord organ, synthesizer, and mandolin on the album. His melodies and effortless lyrics that seem to strangely roll off the tongue are also strong enough to captivate listeners while simply being backed by an acoustic guitar. Luckily, through the power of studio magic, we can experience fleshed out versions of his compositions. I also dig Lindgren’s choice of Slutever‘s "So Prone" for a cover. You can catch him twice this week if you choose to do so or happen to be busy on one of these nights because Ghost/Light will be at Danger Danger Gallery with Curious Buddies and K Records’ the Curious Mystery this evening and at PhilaMOCA this Friday. – H.M.
