Colin “Bear” Regisford (Kids, Mannequin Pussy) started The City & I as a solo acoustic project in 2004. Now, with the help of friends from the local music community, which includes members of The Spirit of The Beehive, Gunk, and Ghost Gum, The City & I has released its first album Downer (available via Infinity Cat Recordings). Influenced heavily by “universal anxieties: late night munchies, early morning loneliness, the inability to deal with the pressures of choosing what to make for lunch,” the debut EP travels through an indica haze with bursts fueled by copious amounts of alcohol and power chords – so raw and rad. (Take a listen for yourself below.) You can celebrate its release with Bear and friends this Saturday night at South Philly’s The Pharmacy with support from QUIT and Unholy Pisces.
