The Extraordinaires are all set to release their 4th full-length album Dress For Nasty Weather at Johnny Brenda’s this Saturday night, and it’s one that’s as artistic and brilliant as their previous efforts. In one way, the record is a blast from the past as it’s the first that they’ve recorded with founding member Matt Gibson since he left touring as a multi-intrumentalist for Man Man. But it’s also a whole lot of new, since it’s the first album released on their own record label (which they co-founded with Justin Wolf of Lux Perpetua), Color Theory Records, and is one that they were able to crowdsource well past their Kickstarter goal. This album will feature the same type of hardbound lyric books that The Extraordinaires popularized with their previous albums, and it also marks the band’s music video debut with their Charlie Chaplin-influenced creation for the single “Blue Moon” (below). It’s an album worthy of much celebration, and they’ll be doing so with longtime friends and West Philly orchestral pop outfit, Grandchildren, and Teen Men, which is a collaboration between visual artists and members of the Spinto Band. Johnny Brenda’s, 1201 Frankford Ave., 9pm, $10, 21+ – Bill McThrill
