This Saturday evening, R5 Productions, along with WPRB, will be presenting former Deli Philly Best Emerging Artist Sheer Mag’s record release show at Union Transfer. The band’s long-awaited full-length debut, Need to Feel Your Love, (Wilsuns Recording Company) doesn’t disappoint, meshing powerfully impassioned vocals, tight late night grooves and adrenalin-laced, white-hot, rifftastic invasions. Those assertive aggressions are craftily threaded, revealing tender, candle-lit flourishes. While exhibiting a take-it-as-it-is, raw and roaring exterior, a calculated precision lies within. They’ll be supported by the fuzz-forward, sticky psych rock of Purling Hiss, the heart-pounding, quick-bursting punk of Dark Thoughts, and the instantaneous hardcore of NYC’s Haram.
Meanwhile, Home Outgrown is presenting a weekend-long fest, dubbed A Fest We Didn’t Know What to Name, which will spread across three Philly DIY spaces. Three Man Cannon and Coping Skills are among those ushering tonight’s show at Broke Down Palace, while the bombarding, catchy Superweaks are lined up to headline Hole Foods this Saturday, and the diverse, personal narratives of Curtis Cooper will be setting up shop on Sunday at Little Italy. – Michael Colavita
