Call me a school girl but Univox makes me giddy. Their contorted, spastic noise always excites me so, and whenever there’s a chance to catch the Philly act in action, like tonight at Kung Fu Necktie, I jump on it like a starving cheetah (OK, maybe more like a hungry rat). Outside of their live grinds, Whether I’m spinning their latest EP, Conan, which features the smashing "Conan" from their self-titled debut on ROIR, a sweet Golden Ages remix of the song, and the non-album, home-recorded track "Philadelphia Red Clay, 1945", playing their in-studio acoustic performance last Wednesday at YNot Radio, or checking out UNIVOX TV on their Tumblr page (they just posted Episode 6), it goes without saying you should follow my lead. And while you’re at it, snag the new album, Black Shark from the North Carolina indie three-piece Hammer No More the Fingers, and educate yourself on the DC/Brooklyn quintet Deleted Scenes, both billed for tonight’s show.
