Oh! Pears, the orchestral/chamber pop project of Corey Duncan, takes the stage tonight at PhilaMOCA. He will be doing a solo set followed by an improvisational vocal set which definitely will require some audience participation. His voice, which is a bit reminiscent of acts like Beirut and Grizzly Bear, is honest and versatile. His music is complex in instrumentation and lyrically thoughtful. What always seem to stand out are Duncan’s effortless guitar work and its nuances of hidden treasures. This evening’s show is part of PhilaMOCA’s Tuesday Tune-Outs, where a musician performs and then selects a movie to be screened (which is usually unannounced) for the crowd to enjoy after their set. It’s fun and intimate! Well, I happen to know that Duncan has chosen The Room, a cult film that was dubbed the “Citizen Kane of bad movies.” So warm up your vocal chords and prepare to view a movie that’s so good at being bad.
