People should already be making their way to the 40-acre location at Old Pool Farm in Upper Salford Township (near Schwenksville, PA) for the Philadelphia Folk Festival’s 50th Anniversary presented by the non-profit Philadelphia Folksong Society in conjunction with Point Entertainment. The four-day music and art festival will be kicking things off with an exclusive concert tonight for attendees with camping tickets featuring Terrance Simien and The Zydeco Experience, Amanda Shires, and Joel Plaskett Emergency. For the rest of the folks who aren’t planning to build a home this weekend as part of the makeshift town, the music will begin tomorrow morning. You’ll be treated to local favorites like Hoots & Hellmouth and Birdie Busch intertwined among legends like Arlo Guthrie and Levon Helm as well as up-and-comers like Justin Townes Earle and Trombone Shorty. It’s simply a chill weekend to get away from the grittiness of city life. Hopefully the predicted thunderstorms will hold off avoiding putting a damper on things, but I’m sure that it won’t keep the alcohol from flowing. Old Pool Farm, Upper Salford Township, Thurs. – Sun., $10 – $188, All Ages – H.M. Kauffman
