Sultry Spanglish “mas bonita” by Latinx Artist Quelle Rox

Words by Willa Rudolph

Today Puerto Rican and Cuban Brooklyn-based indie artist Quelle Rox, is dropping “mas bonita,” a dreamy and sexy track about someone who’s fed up trying to change love. She is also announcing a July 18th show at Alphaville! Tickets here

“The original version of this track was called ‘how much do I have to do,’ and that was the chorus. I later changed the chorus to the Spanish lyrics: ‘me puse más bonita, me puse más feliz.‘ It’s like I got prettier, I got happier, why don’t you love me? Haha,” Quelle laughs. “But also realizing, you’ve been delulu, and you were perfect how you were. You were just interested in someone’s loser son.” Hey sis, we get it…

“mas bonita” stands out among Quelle Rox’s other tracks because of its magical saxophone outro, but it is consistent with her oeuvre in its imagery of sultry, steamy New York nights (see our write up of her track “midnight train” here). The new hazy and tranquil tune really swells around you and evokes this lush warmth and sweet beauty, in the vein of Kali Uchis and The Marias

“The dreamy sax outro is one of my faves, done by Tristan Cappel, who also did a sax solo on my track “i only want you when I’m fucked up”

Quelle tells The Deli, “”My EP ‘swimming in blue’ will be dropping in September, it’s my best project yet. Blue dreamy Latina summer.” Can’t wait!!

Today being the “mas bonita” release date is symbolic because it marks the anniversary of her acclaimed track Cosmic Gloom,” which has surpassed 2 million streams. “mas bonita” is the second single from her upcoming Spanglish EP, “swimming in blue,” set for release this September. Keep up with Quelle Rox here.
