Imagine the badassery of a blues guitar solo, the reckless, chaotic attitude of a punk show, and noise so all encompassing, Kevin Shields would ask to turn it down. Intense, right? Something like that’s happening tonight at Jonny Brenda’s where Deli favorites Purling Hiss are headlining. On record, these guys sound like a seriously vintage blues band on a vinyl not quite dusted properly after years spent oin the garage. Which is to say, awesome. And it only promises to be more awesome live; fresh off tours with The War on Drugs, Dr. Dog and Wilco, the grungy, unapologetic trio is known for its energetic live shows, matching the intensity of its sound in its performance. With creepy noisers Far-Out Fangtooth and the newly-signed-to-Matador The Young opening, JB’s is sure to be one of the loudest rooms in Philly this evening. Which, again, is to say, awesome.
