The first single since their March 2024 EP “The Rot,” produced by The Strokes’ longtime producer Gordon Raphael, this new upbeat track is inspired by what happens to your life if you’re messy and out of control. (See our write-up of “The Rot” here)
“‘Ew!’ is about a lot of things,” lead singer Julia Von Dutch tells The Deli. “We kind of ‘frankensteined’ some ideas, but basically it’s about getting yourself into trouble by being reckless with someone who is also reckless! It’s about being with someone you’re kind of icked out by, but you also can’t help yourself. And the consequences SUCK.” Make sure you pre-save the single HERE so you can AUTOMATICALLY enjoy the grotesque, yet seductive track on Friday the 13th!! But this song is sure to bring you GOOD luck.
Julia’s powerful and full vocals are extremely dominant and high-powered as she shouts “EW!!!” at the top of the track. “This is a song about a girl / broken from the start / putting the pieces together / ‘Til I fall apart…” We all know what it’s like to be a messy girl… no? Just some of us? Well I get it, anyway… “But I’m bearing the weight / I’m wearing thin I’m asking you / To leave me alone,” she sings.
A highly danceable beat and speeds that switch up between the verses and choruses, “EW!” is a fabulous continuation of their first release as a band, The Rot EP. Preceding a second new single in early 2025, the cover art alone will make you squirm!
The Dutch Kills are premiering this single on Saturday night at Arlene’s Grocery in the Lower East Side at The Deli Mag’s 20th Anniversary Showcase: The 20th DELIVERSARY!
