New Aunt Dracula EP Available for Streaming

Posted on:

Aunt Dracula‘s forthcoming album, YULE, is a completely solo effort from Scott Daly. Gone are the languid, heady psych-pop soundscapes found on previous recordings; instead, you’ll discover Daly traversing brutally abrasive sonic terrains, while his avant-garde sensibilities still remain in the form of a "one man wrecking ball". The EP was recorded this past fall at Castle Drac Studios in Fishtown, and will be officially released on December 21 via Bromius Records.

Mood Music: Sinless – ‘Melodie’

Posted on:

And here we find ourselves again. There’s clearly something about Sinless that either really gets us in the mood, or is somehow just always what we need to hear. We were in the mood for their track "Cool" back in September and now, we’re entirely too much in the mood for the EP that houses "Cool," titled Melodie.

Out just a few days ago, Melodie continues on in that same supernal, dream pop vein Ethereality teased us with last summer. At just four tracks, it’s another tease at frontman Cor Allen’s mastery of 4AD’s discography, as this EP is entirely a bedroom-recorded solo effort.

Rumor has it Sinless will be releasing their first 11 track full length in 2017, but until then enjoy Melodie on this somewhat snowy morning.

New Track: “Savior” – Dominic

Posted on:

Inspired by "a long dormant obsession with ‘alternative religion’" and "a couple of super mean Leonard Cohen songs," Dominic Angelella wrote the song "Savior" while working on the next Lithuania album. It’s the second single from his debut album, Goodnight, Doggies. (under the moniker Dominic), which will be released on February 3 via Lame-O Records. He’ll also be helping to kickoff Lame-O’s second annual Rock Residency at Boot & Saddle in the month of January. Each show in the residency will benefit a variety of great causes. Dominic will be coming together with Hurry and Cherry on Thursday, January 5 at the South Philly music venue to raise donations for Planned Parenthood.

Wet Leather unveils debut full length ‘The Feeling Is Mutual’

Posted on:

By describing their music as "anxiety pop" well before the 2016 elections (may they be damned!), NYC’s indie pop quintet Wet Leather might have tapped into something real before we were even aware of it – maybe their music should be the soundtrack of WNYC’s new weekly program "United States of Anxiety"? Truth be told, the kind of anxiety channeled by these dudes’ tunes is a lot more fun and a lot less stressful thant the one lately delivered by the news (fake ones in particular), so don’t be scared of it, actually… embrace it! It’s channeled through pure, perfectly crafted and rather classy uptempo pop, with an opening single entitled ‘Astral Projection’ (streaming) exhibiting traces of Elvis Costello and Camera Obscura, and Prince references coming through in many other tracks (like for example in single ‘Shame‘).

Brian Bonz and The Major Crimes’ play Rough Trade on 12/18

Posted on:

It took Brian Bonz six years to complete his sophomore full length ‘Misophonia’, released in 2015 after 2009’s well received ‘The Triborough Odyssey.’ Presented under the moniker ‘Brian Bonz and The Major Crimes,’ the record, whose title literally means “hatred of sound”, brings music lovers a thoughtful, multifaceted sonic journey where both texture and power find fertile ground, and mostly electronic arrangements support Brian’s dreamy melodies and emotional vocals. Take a listen to single  ‘The Man from Munich’ below and see Brian Bonz live at Rough Trade on 12/18! – Ashley Muniz

Twin Chameleon Brings Their Brand of Indie-Pop to McGann’s Irish Pub 12/9

Posted on:

Simple, catchy melodies, surprisingly incongruent lyrical content and the occasional calypso flavor, makes Boston indie pop-trio Twin Chameleon a stand-out act.  As you listen to their self-titled debut EP, it’s difficult not to make comparisons to bands like Bombay Bicycle Club or early-era Vampire Weekend.  However, Twin Chameleon definitely has their own character and is quickly mastering the art of engaging pop anthems.  From the beach-vibe of "Spring Break" to the unique vocal soundscape of "Counting Sheep", each track has something different to offer.   Check them out as they take the stage at McGann’s Irish Pub with Makutu, The Maxims, and Floorcloud on 12/9. –Brian Varneke
