FYOHNA crafts moody, intimate electro pop on debut single “Ghost Heart”

Posted on:

The whirling, somewhat isolated beauty of FYOHNA immediately grabs you with its tense drone and aqueous synth textures on their debut single "Ghost Heart." The duo of vocalist Katarina Gleicher and producer/multi-instrumentalist Elliot Glasser provide a polished and sophisticated atmosphere that seems as if they’ve been dong this for years. The song’s experimental strokes give it an ethereal purity, though it also features the kind of chorus that cloaks you with a welcome embrace.

"Ghost Heart" is the first single off of FYOHNA’s self-titled debut EP, which will be released on April 28. They’re also scheduled for a show at Union on May 25. – Juan Rodríguez

New Track: “Player 2” – Alexandra Gordon

Posted on:

“Player 2,” the latest single from Philly singer-songwriter Alexandra Gordon, catches an intimate, exposed, lo-fi thread. Her hushed, softly-spoken narrative hints at nervousness and the potential of an emotional disconnect. The minimal, subtle steadiness of the instrumentation provides a finger-tapping foundation, without pulling back from the personal perspective. And we love the hook!

Soft Flesh, the new cassingle from Pilkington, is now available via Black Rd Records. Its title track splices chiptune with a rolling, surf guitar licks, gliding along in vibrant, cruising fashion, while the B-side, “Elixir,” gathers momentum from backend rhythms and rays of synth, as the lyrics depict an isolated tale of searching for answers. NAKED WILD – “STAY GIRL” LYRIC VIDEO

Posted on:

The Naked Wild are gettin’ set to release their new EP at some point this year and they’ve been kind enough to drop one tune already. These indie rockers from Toronto have a relaxed but catchy sound. You can spin em if you’re in chill mode or if you’re about to fire things up. I get a sunshine vibe as well so perhaps this track will brighten your day.  "Stay Girl" shows the bands sound has matured a bit. It’s well put together with tasty guitar licks, groovy basslines and a simple drum beat that’s right on. A nice indie tune. Naked Wild will be playing at the Junction City Music Hall TOMORROW! – Kris Gies

Baltimore trap virtuoso SOOHAN drops new album

Posted on:

Party music that you can enjoy with a pair of headphones, Baltimore, MD based SOOHAN‘s fourth full length album is a joyride. A virtuoso sampler, SOOHAN draws on Jewish folk music and Indian pop songs to craft infectiously melodic, trap heavy grooves. Every track on this album is a real treat: well crafted, smooth as butter, and an invitation to dance like a deranged banshee.

Check out SOOHAN at Rock & Roll Hotel April 22nd.

New NAH EP Available for Streaming & Download

Posted on:

Hiver En Neuf Morceaux, the new EP from NAH, was recorded at West Philly’s Sex Dungeon. Available digitally as well as on cassette via Ranch and roughly translating to winter in nine pieces, the EP continues NAH’s measured melding of genre and tone. An ominous grey looms, punctuated by heavy omnipresent booming beats; however, a variety of samples offer crystalline, jazz-anchored valleys amid the chaotic/treacherous, interspersing punk/hip-hop/noise climb. Upon returning from a European stint, NAH will appear at the First Unitarian Church on Sunday, April 23 with Wolf Eyes, TRNSGNDR/VHS, and Madam Data. (Photo by Phil Rudich)
