The video’s warm, mysterious lighting (courtesy of the Dolphin Tavern) meshes well with the song’s classic sound, creating an air of elegance. You can catch the ladies this evening at Ortlieb’s, where they’ll be joined by Born Losers labelmates Residuels, as well as The Coathangers.

New Dirty Dollhouse LP Available for Streaming & Purchase
Vinyl Child, the recently released album from Dirty Dollhouse, a.k.a. Chelsea Mitchell, captures a soulful, earnest beauty. Produced by The Lawsuits‘ Brian Dale Allen Strouse, the album sways gently in moments of mind-wandering, glistening folk, and then ramps up in momentum, escalating to a harmony-rich, countrified stomp. Transported by purposeful but not pushy instrumentation, spoken-mind lyricism leads the way. Band on the rise: Shinning Mirrors’ old-school garage with a modern pop twist
The word "music revival" normally implies two sorts of bands: acts that try and recreate authentic facsimiles of history, and others that hold a mirror to the past, drawing inspiration from it while opening fresh dialogues and contributing something new to the conversation. Brooklyn-based Shining Mirrors is the latter kind of band, reflecting their influences in gritty garage and indie rock and yet possessing a sound whose time period is much more difficult to place. The track’s quality pop songwriting is in part reminiscent of the overlooked Scottish genius of the ’80s Lloyd Cole & the Commotions. thelvnguage to bring the funk to Rockwood Music Hall 5/12
If you’ve been on the hunt for “a major funk odyssey,” then thelvnguage just might be your dream band. The NYC-based four-piece combines thick and creamy funk with some serious psych vibes, but wraps it all up in a neat, indie-pop package. Their latest single busts out the jams with major disco guitar chops and the blare of that delicious old-school organ sound, and features singer, Rob van Zandt’s svelte vocals. New Music Video: “Nail in the Wire” – Lunacy
Nick Kulp (Remote Control, ex-Creepoid/Far-Out Fangtooth), who records and performs under the moniker Lunacy, just shared a new music video for the single, "Nail in the Wire," which premiered earlier this morning at CVLT Nation. Its visuals provide "a depiction of the world being destroyed by natural causes from the earth & the static represents purgatory and the split or ‘nail’ between dimensions." The footage was shot and edited by Joe Kusy and Conor Clasen, and it is the closing track on Lunacy’s forthcoming EP Beneath The Fold, which will be available on cassette and in digital format on May 26 via Funeral Party.

Sundaes Releases New Track “Smoke Signals”
Sundaes offers a rendition of early oughts’ indie rock that proves a breath of fresh air for the broader independent music scene. The second new track “Smoke Signals” off their upcoming EP is no exception. Reminiscent of greats like The Strokes or The New Pornographers, it’s a guitar-heavy number with a driving rhythm and laid-back, meandering vocal melody that sticks to the brain. The new work impressively recycles the sonic traits of its influences while remaining fresh and relevant in its conceptual undertakings. DC indie-folk-rock upstarts Handsome Hound at Songbyrd this Saturday
Fresh from a weekend stint in folk friendly Charlottesville, Handsome Hound returns to their hometown this Saturday to headline Songbyrd in Adams Morgan. Well-crafted and soulfully entertaining songs are the key to this group’s success, as the indie-folk-rock outfit continues to build off of the attention garnered by the release of their first EP last year. Creative and well thought out, the music does justice to the band’s influences: Americana legends like Johnny Cash and modern folk stars Shovels and Rope.

Julian Fulton unveils protest song “Howl” + live in Asbury Park on 04.19
Julian Fulton’s new track from his forthcoming EP, ‘Battered Receptions,’ is an experimental call to arms for the marginalized in the face of an oppressive national administration. His fuzzy take on what might amount to revival rock serves as the perfect vehicle for much needed protest music in 2017. The track’s main goal is combatting apathy in the face of seemingly unstoppable forces. Its opening lines beg the question: “What’s the point in fighting when the writing’s already on the wall?”. An assertive answer appears in the chorus: “It’s not a trick, it’s not a script, it’s not TV / It’s your real life, open your eyes, they’re trying to keep you in the streets”. Fulton’s vocal delivery is angry and combative, emulating the reaction he’d like listeners to have. He wants you riled up, he wants you ready to fight, he wants you to care even when it seems like caring is useless. Julian Fulton has three shows in NJ coming up (listed here), the first one of the series will be at Asbury Park Music Foundation on April 19th. – Andrew Strader

The five-song EP is electrified in a moody, noisy clash between bleak resignation and resilience. Hovering that threshold between despair and aggression, the band keeps moving. Foul Tip’s Minimal Indie Punk
Foul Tip is a two-piece drum and bass band that rests on a skillfully crafted synchronicity between drummer Ed Bornstein and bassist Adam Luksetich. Bornstein holds down strenuously tight beats while Luksetich leads the songs with fuzz covered bass. The duo’s lyrical sensibility parallels their punk oriented sonic leanings with peculiarly philosophical diatribes like the one on "Success" in which they criticize the modern penchant for stardom, popularity, and pedestalled self-image: "Don’t be obsessed with success / Chasing dreams you just can’t catch / Because you could play the game just right / You’d be losing sleep all night." The real gold in Foul Tip’s work is their ability to offer complex cultural commentary using sonic and lyrical simplicity. This is the essential aim of their 2016 album Forever Driftin’: to be conceptually complex and practically minimal.

Saint Slumber drops new single, plays the Delancey 4/29
On the heels of sharing the stage with Twenty One Pilots and Circa Survive, Saint Slumber probably has a pretty solid idea of what’s cool, so it makes sense they’d write a song about it. Their latest release, “Cool” (from the upcoming " YOUTH//1 EP," out on April 28) starts off with crackling fuzz, background noise and a blitzed out synth before launching itself into a smooth melodic synth lick that later frames the song’s sweeping chorus. It’s an instantly catchy track that melds elements of indie rock with R&B, post-rock and EDM, but packages them all in a radio-ready way.
