New Midwestern Exposure LP Available for Streaming & Purchase

Posted on:

Midwestern Exposure follows up its Grizzly Bear EP (released earlier this year in March) with a new full-length album, entitled The West. The trio splices elements of haunting country-blues with an ominous bite, stirring up the surroundings; however, despite those sinister sounds, fresh, folk-oriented points of optimism persist as well. They’ll be setting up shop at Ortlieb’s on Wednesday, August 9, for a billing with the Dirty Soap Blues Band and King Kong and the Bleeding Hearts.

Fuzz pop duo Umm prove their devotion on “I’m In Love”

Posted on:

A name can sometimes invite some immediate skepticism. And Umm is unfailingly straight, but don’t let the marked hesitation fool you: the new project from Stefanie Drootin and Chris Senseney command your attention from the very first second with their visceral brand of fuzz pop. Their first single, "I’m In Love", reimagines the guitar assaults of classic alternative rock with some chamber ornamentation, making for a deliriously explosive three minutes that will keep you on your toes.

"I’m In Love" will appear on their debut album Double Worshipper, which is out on July 28 via Majestic Litter. – Juan Rodríguez

Kill Alters release ‘No Self Helps’ + play St. Vitus on 06.16

Posted on:

Brooklyn noisemakers Kill Alters make music that attacks, both physically and mentally. With pulsating percussions, laser-like synths, and the visceral vocals of Bonnie Baxter, the band offers a sound that’s aggressive, complex, and demanding. Their compositions break from tradition, incorporating sounds ranging from the industrial to the downright frightening (a baby’s laughter), and adopting a nightmarish aesthetic reminiscent of early post punk groups like Throbbing Gristle. Upcoming LP ‘No Self Helps’ (out June 28th on Haus Mountain) promises something different, and sometimes uncomfortable, through a journey that’s complex, textured, and entertaining, every step of the way.  See them live at St. Vitus on 06.16. – Allie Miller

NYC band on the rise: Future Heart

Posted on:

Brooklyn psych-pop band Future Heart rather accurately lives up to its name, providing futuristic vibes without giving up emotion and movement. Formed in 2015, the eight-piece group released their debut single, “Holographic Autograph” last year, a record that blurs the line between afrobeat, pop and electronic music. They recently headlined Baby’s All Right (which is per se an achievement), so you may want to check out their live schedule for upcoming shows. – Tafari Lemma

The quintet is slated to appear as part of an upcoming lineup that also includes Salfi, Nox, Zigtebra, and Chubby Bunny, on Monday, June 19 at The Overlook Hotel.

It’s difficult to catalog New Hampshire’s People Like You into any sort of genre classification without writing a dissertation on the subject. The band’s new album, People People, is a roller coaster ride, keeping you on the edge of your seat with each strum, squeeze, and pluck. Check them out at Fury’s Publick House on 7/1 and help them celebrate the new release. -Brian Varneke

Folk Singer/Songwriter Katie Dobbins Releases Debut Album, Embarks on New England Tour

Posted on:

Last month, Boston-based singer/songwriter Katie Dobbins released her debut album, She Is Free, a deeply personal record that is full of reflective poetry and messages of love. At its core, She is Free is a pop record, bringing to mind Jewel’s Pieces of You, but Dobbins reveals her eclectic nature through traditional folk instruments, horns, and the occasional twangy pedal steel. Katie will be setting out on a supporting tour this month throughout New England.  You can find dates and more information here. -Brian Varneke

Pom Pom Squad brings garagey pop to Sunnyvale on 06.14

Posted on:

Somewhere between the heart wrenching lyricism of Mitksi and the cool-girl attitude of Cherry Glazerr, Pom Pom Squad stirs up trouble. Spoofing the cheerleader stereotype, they reclaim the image of the girl everyone loves to hate with sincerity and confession. Hate It Here, their nostalgic 2017 release, persuades listeners to reconsider their high school bullies, with lines like “How do you expect me to figure myself out/when I can’t tell the difference between bad and good attention.” Don’t miss their show at Sunnyvale tomorrow (June 14th) with Danny Christmas, Nick Llobet, and Julep Maisey. – Allie Miller

New Track: “Parasitic” – Enamel

Posted on:

Shot out of a cannon, “Parasitic,” a new song from hardcore quintet Enamel, rips and rumbles with an immediate, attacking velocity. While inherently aggressive and agitated, the band maintains composure, unleashing the fury on a user characterized as “social-climbing scum”. The track is featured on Enamel’s forthcoming cassette, Complete The Lie.
