Elk Walking

Posted on:

Elk Walking are preparing to release their debut album, Between Us, in August. The band has evolved our the last few years from an acoustic duo into a full band. Through out the album, it is the interplay of the vocals from Savanna Dickhut and Julian Daniell that really draw you in. You can get a good sense of that on the single “Drift On” below.

You can help Elk Walking celebrate the release of their album on August 25th at Virgin Hotels with Faux Furrs and Luke Henry.

The Dimaggio’s Bring Exhilarating Falsetto’d Rock

Posted on:

Flying under the radar and hailing from Waco, The Dimaggoios are pumping adrenaline through their amphetamined post-punk pop. Vocalist and guitarist, Brian, projects a unique falsetto vocal styling that is akin to Matt Bellamy of Muse. The ebb and flow of their music is theatrical and bombastic, with inspiring builds and euphoric choruses. Songs like "Fast Trip" don’t leave room for navel-gazing, and the staccatto guitar riffs keep the listener on edge. The quartet has an upcoming show at the Mohawk with other local bands Honeyrude and The First Part on August 3rd. Get out and experience the Dimaggios firsthand!

Goth-punk band, PAWNS drop new album

Posted on:

NY-based PAWNS serves up harrowing post-punk that’s just itching to darken your day. Their latest release, Gallows, is 10 evil-sounding tracks that manage to navigate an aesthetic that’s at once grim yet infectiously danceable. With simple, bouncy melody lines, and reverberating vocals that sound as if they were recorded from beyond the grave, Gallows is the LP to reach for when you need something to jar you out of a cheery streak. Modern Crowds release single “Eye of the Storm,” play Arlene’s on 08.25

Posted on:

With their EP Go one year behind them, Asbury Park-based Modern Crowds just released their new single "Eye of the Storm" online, with plans to include it on their official self-titled debut album. The indie rock quartet brought out their biggest sound to date on the track, taking inspiration from groups like Radiohead and Animal Collective. Trance-like guitar and drums come courtesy of original members Joe Pellegrinelli and Charlie Kupilik, as well as Doug Gatta and Adam Baczkowski on bass and lead guitar respecitvely. Synths and droning soundscapes round out the sound for a psychedelic summer pop experience. For more tracks like "Eye of the Storm", catch Modern Crowds at Arlene’s Grocery on August 25th. – Will Sisskind

New Shelf Life LP Available for Streaming & Purchase

Posted on:

A melancholy cloud hovers over Shelf Life‘s latest fifteen-song full-length album, entitled YARN. The LP is dedicated to former Pill Friend‘s talented singer/guitarist Ryan Wilson, who sadly passed away way too early this spring. With a heavy heart, the collection of tracks is a touching, introspective homage to a greatly missed friend.

The first day of the music fest, along with the slimming down the finalists through eight rounds, took place last night. Boone Howard, Kulululu, Kyle Craft and the Woolen Men all rang the first night of the fest, with tonight taking it to the next level.

Rigsketball is taking over the Eagles Lodge again tonight for the semifinals, with performances from Bleach Blonde Dudes, Ghost Frog, Lavender Flu and Cat Hoch

As always, Rigsketball is entirely free. Games start in just a couple hours at 6pm and music starts at 8pm. Head down to southeast again tomorrow for the tournament finals, Melt‘s EP release and sets from Malt Lizard, Tribe Mars, Candace, Donte Thomas and Chanti Darling

Jachary releases single “Yellow Vision” + opens for Homeshake at Warsaw 7.28

Posted on:

With a debut EP on the way, New-York-via-Boston artist Jachary has released the single “Yellow Vision” (streaming below) which garnered him quite a bit of momentum. The funky alt-soul single is like a cross between semi-electronic groups Milky Chance and Glass Animals, with an even groovier synth beat and an undeniable flow. In the past, Jachary has also been busy as a producer, working on track “eve’s titties” for fellow hometown hero Deem Spencer – a rapper with great potential. Jachary’s full EP will be out on September 12th, and, before then, he will be opening for Homeshake on July 28th at Warsaw in Brooklyn. – Lilly Milman, photography by Tony Giambrone
