Brooklyn post-punk rockers The Fluids continue to share tracks leading up to the release of their debut album “No Kidding!”. While initial singles “Creatures and “Sign N’ Drive” provided early insight, more recent focus on deeper tracks point to a complete full length recording. Utilizing an extended keyboard intro and siren-like effect, “Just Like Me” (streaming below) ultimately bursts out as a full-on guitar, bass and drums stomper. While the vocal inflections have accurately drawn comparisons to Berlin-era Bowie, the band’s full, expansive sound is in part reminiscent of early aughts post-punk revivalists Interpol but also ’80s icons The Psychedelic Furs. The album is available 10/27 on Axis Mundi Records, with the release party on Thursday October 26th at the Mercury Lounge. – Dave Cromwell
New Track: “Exposure” – Remote Control
Philly darkwave trio Remote Control just shared its official debut single. The heart-pounding, low-end synths of "Exposure" gets you right from the gate. The guitar rings out beckoning for the macabre combination of vocals to emerge. Be warned: "Winter is coming," and you can find "Exposure" on the band’s upcoming EP Wasteland. It is also now available on limited edition cassette and digital format (below), which is accompanied by a remix from Crash Course In Science.
Nasalrod makes ‘Building Machines’ their Mississippi Studios debut
It seems that 2013 was like a blip in history. Back then, people said "YOLO" literally all the time and Vine was gaining app traction, but there was something else about that year that made it special – it was the last time "experimental punk" outfit Nasalrod released an album. Though It’s Our Pleasure was definitely a pleasure for fans, their first record in five years is even more of one.
This month Nasalrod dropped their vinyl debut Building Machines, and it’s exactly what we need from them now. Nasalrod has always been distant from any strict genre classifications, incorporating everything from noise to rowdy punk to even more dancier grooves to create their chaotic tunes. Building Machines is raucous and raw, with each member contributing integral bits to their aural storm.
On Sunday 10.22, Nasalrod are playing Mississippi Studios for the first time for Building Machines release, along with psych punk act BOINK and Honey Bucket. Tickets are only $5, such a steal for catching one of the most energetic acts in town.

Prolly Knot brings poppy R&B to Portland
It’s always fun to discover new ways in which genres can be mixed and mingled, and that’s definitely something Sam Pinkerton has tasked herself with doing. Under the moniker Prolly Knot, Pinkerton recently dropped her candid debut album It’s Not Anymore, and it’s rife with tracks that will make you feel just as emotionally vulnerable.
The album seems as if to be a series of confessionals from Pinkerton, stirred up by the process of self reflection and moving across the country from her native Nashville home. It’s Not Anymore is earnest in its sounds, blending dark pop, R&B and notes of hip-hop to create an accessible, almost brooding bedroom feel that’s warmly intimate.

Soccer Mommy brings ’90s flavored guitar pop to Baby’s All Right on 11.14
Soccer Mommy’s music is starkly intimate. Frontwoman Sophie Allison’s writing pairs personal stories with bedroom pop honesty, but if you ever doubted that intimacy would translate to a live setting check out the band’s recently released Audiotree Live session. It’s proof that Soccer Mommy’s music works just as well live and evidence for the band’s recent buzz, fed – among other things – by her full length released on Fat Possum Records and by Allison’s participation in a New York Times discussion on women in rock music. Experience it for yourself on November 14th when Soccer Mommy headlines at Baby’s All Right. – Cameron Carr
The Wayne Garner Band Brings Some Texas Grit
Raised in Oklahoma but claiming Texas as his spiritual home, Wayne Garner wears his Souther roots proudly. While much of his music reflects the struggle he saw growing up, there is nothing contrived about his songwriting- which bleeds emotion. Signed on to the Smith Music Group label, Wayne Garner and his band have found a way to make music full-time which is a distinct rarity these days for up and coming artists. While some roots and country music can sometimes feel hokey and manufactured, Wayne strikes a chord with his gritty guitar licks and graveled voice that brings gravity to the songs he writes. The Wayne Garner Band will play in Houston on October 28th at the Armadillo Palace.
Siren Section release video for “Ground Descending,” new album out 10/24
Siren Section have captured the essence of electronic music and its different permutations for a variety of projects. But what hasn’t changed for the duo is their undying friendship, and on their latest offering, New Disconnect, that experience has allowed them to reach their creative peak. Their intricate beat constructions are best exemplified on "Ground Descending," a surging industrial ballad anchored by an immersive display of frostbitten synths.
New Disconnect will be self-released on October 24 via their official bandcamp page. Watch the stunning video for "Ground Descending" below. Juan Rodríguez
Weekend Warrior, October 20 – 22
Play The Songs You Like, the new full-length album from Radiator Hospital, officially comes out today via Salinas Records. In a corresponding move, the band will headline a release show this evening at First Unitarian Church. There’s a fuzzy familiarity in these songs – a bouncy enthusiasm that one can latch on to. Lyrically, one finds him/herself paging through a photo album as those sharp but ever-fading memories push back up to the surface. Even the sad points gain a luminous glow, the more time passes. The quartet continuously finds a way to tap into and trigger the communality of personal experiences, with a delicate, united, melodic touch. Tonight, they’ll be joined by the tender-rocking Baltimore trio of Outer Spaces, and capturing a kindred-comforting warmth, Emi Night-led Strawberry Runners, whose new EP In the Garden, In the Night is also now available courtesy of Salinas Records, reinforces the billing. With a new EP on the way, local trio Eight will kick off the festivities. – Michael Colavita

Piano duo St. Dawn in Slumber debut their dreamy EP
Nashville’s Isaac (The Arcadian Wild) and Ella Horn met through a musical conversation discussed through the voices of two pianos in adjacent practice rooms, leading to marriage a few months later and beautiful music they are now sharing with the world. As st. dawn in slumber, an instrumental piano outfit, the couple is releasing their debut EP, My Heart Awakened in a Dream, via Vohnic Music. With this effort, and future EPs already in the works, the Horns hope to "create space for rest and reflection" through "a collection of soothing, evocative piano pieces that we could use to sweet-talk sleep and to charm ourselves awake." If you’re looking for music for late night meditation, look no further. – Chris Thiessen
New The Trust Fund Kids EP Available for Streaming & Download
As he builds toward a debut LP, Kevin Connor, a.k.a. The Trust Fund Kids, recently issued a fresh EP The Sky Looks Like A Videogame. Creating a musical compound of upbeat jangle with underlying ghostly synth/keys, these songs pleasantly haunt. Nightmarish tales of isolation gather steam, as the light fixtures in a narrative tunnel are gradually brought to full power. There’s a vibrancy that persists through the dim times.
