Fitting to its name “New Constellation” is a floaty, spacious new track by Atlas Engine—it’s also a notable step away from the more energized and guitar heavy work that Nick LaFalce has previously released under this name. Synthesizers lead the way with an echoing drum beat providing the pulse of the track. The voice and guitars of LaFalce remain, but heavier in reverb with the vocals tending toward falsetto and the guitar leaning toward subtle and spacious melodies. The bright echo of guitar picking is perhaps the only contrast to the dreamy, nighttime mood Atlas Engine invokes here. Listen to “New Constellation” below. – Cameron Carr

Sean Henry plays Park Church Co-op on 11.05
Sean Henry, formally known as Boy Crush, disappeared into the ether for a few years. After this 2015 release, there was nothing new from the New York-based artist for a while. The silence came to an end this past summer, with the release of 10-track album Fink, which may make you regret those three years without new music even further. Fink has a shaggy sound to match the floppy hair of the man behind it, and it fits right in with other artists on the Double Double Whammy’s roster. It’s loose, at times sloppy, but in that endearing way that sucks you in. You can check out Henry’s vibe in person this November, as he is performing a few shots. That includes a stop at the Park Church Co-op in Brooklyn on November 5. – Chris Morgan

The Brother Brothers offer romantic folk + play Union Pool on 10.19
The folk songs of The Brother Brothers feel like restored photograph full of subtle emotions and forgotten stories. A lush romanticism has been stitched into every note, and the warm instrumentation feels like part of a long lineage of Americana songwriting that’s been passed down from generation to generation. On the latest single "Red and Gold," from their new album Some People I Know, the duo strips down the sound to the bare minimum without losing the sentimental impact generated by the song. The record drops Oct. 19 on Compass Records and the band is scheduled to play an album release show at Union Pool on that same date. -Tucker Pennington
New Track: “Myth of the Groove” – Kilamanzego
Kilamanzego recently shared a new single via Amsterdam based collective/label ZenSupremacy. “Myth of the Groove” crackles and quakes, as the warmth of synth invites, but simultaneously creates a mysterious atmosphere. Then, it finds its footing in vibrant, 8-bit matriculation. Step into that futuristic, funky, weightless beat, propelled naturally but not pushed. Kilamanzego will be joining a lineup that also includes Masie Blu and Gender Work, on Friday, November 23 at World Cafe Live.
Life Sentence Reissue
Classic Thrash Punk trio Life Sentence reissued their self-titled debut LP last week. The original LP was released in 1986, and the tracks have been completely remastered for this release.
Life Sentence was the work of Tom O’Connor (Drums), Joe Losurdo (Vocals, Bass), and Eric Brockman (Guitar, Vocals). Eric sadly passed away two years ago, but this reissue stands as great representation of his and this groups impact on the ’80’s thrash scene in Chicago.
New Treasure Box EP Available for Streaming & Download
Riding an experimental thread through contrasting calm and chaotic times, Treasure Junkie, the new release from Timothy MacIsaac (nubble light), a.k.a. Treasure Box, is a small gift from the future. That glitchy, free-floating groove sets a pleasant mood, as unexplored corridors are revealed. It has a contained, on-the-brink-of-collapse, burn-out atmosphere. Find that clairvoyant tunnel in the midst of disorder.
The Lone Bellow releases new EP “The Restless” on 10.19
A new EP from The Lone Bellow is on the way, set for a release on October 19th across all platforms. The Restless already has its title track available to the public, along with a video supporting it. This new EP marks the first where the trio of Zach Williams, Kanene Donehey Pipkin, and Brian Elmquist perform without a backing band, although they’ve done such a thing during their live shows to fan and critical acclaim. The band recorded the songs on The Restless in the same way that they perform those sans band songs during their show: One mic, little production, and all of the elements that could impede a clean take fair game. If you hear chairs creaking or wind rustling while listening to "The Restless" or their cover of The National’s "Pink Rabbits" — another single the band’s released — then that’s part of the song. The Lone Bellow supports the release of The Restless with their current TRIIIO tour, which includes shows consisting entirely of just the trio singing around a mic; their trail will take them through the Northeast down towards Nashville, where they’ll perform three homecoming shows in December. Watch the video for "The Restless" below. – Will Sisskind

Hey, Chels’ “Sludge Town, USA” is a white-knuckle ripper
Hey, Chels forge a muscular, guitar-driven ode to classic alternative rock on "Sludge Town, USA." Even the track’s nondescript title gives the assumption that it could’ve come out of anywhere, given how the San Diego band crank up their amps with mounds of blissful, post-shoegaze distortion. But this isn’t your everyday revision of a bygone nostalgic era – the four-piece revitalize a timeless sound on their own terms with great conviction. It’s a visceral jammer which sends a mighty call with an urgency that is impossible to reproduce.
"Sludge Town, USA" is the leadoff track off of Hey, Chels’ recently-releeased self-titled EP. Juan Rodríguez
