Posted on:

Ric Wilson relesaed a new single this week called “Yellowbrick” b/w “Dan Ryan Traffic”. This is Wilson’s second single since the release of his 2018 EP "BANBA".

“Yellowbrick” features contributions from Australia’s Jia Lih and local trumpeter Sam Veren and is a jazzy torch song.

Wilson was just one of the several talented Chicago musicians on the recently announced Pitchfork Music Festival 2019 line-up coming to Union Park this July. He was scheduled to perform at Bottom Lounge on April 13th, but that show has been postponed with no rescheduled date as of yet.

Weekend Warrior, March 22 – 24

Posted on:

This Saturday night, Underground Arts will play host to Lizedelise’s belated album release celebration for Holy Matrimony, The Deli Philly’s March Record of the Month. A graceful, internal monologue of thoughts meets the external instrumental realization of emotion in the band’s complex, cathartic contemplations. Those bright, buoyant tones are contrasted by the thundercrack of reality, balancing the hypnotic and the heavy. They’ll be supported by the at ease, ethereal, melodic folk-pop of Strawberry Runners. Madeline Rafter (Sieve, formerly of The Original Crooks and Nannies) will also be taking the stage with material from her project Snake Boy Gang, melding genuine, observational lyricism with playfully scattered instrumental backdrops creating a poignant, personal, pop sound. The evening is presented by House Cat & The Key, as part of The House Key Showcase, and is sponsored by Founders Brewing Co. – Michael Colavita

The Fixins release new EP, Screens, Greens and Flying Machines March 21

Posted on:

There’s a purity in The Fixins’ latest EP, Screens, Greens and Flying Machines. Tracks have a beachy folk rock feeling that are like a Jack Johnson-Neutral Milk Hotel hybrid but with more country feel-good vibes. Track “Dropping Bombs” has a sweet melody and lovely plucking for such a political song, which is perhaps why it’s effective. It’s not in your face–nor is the rest of the album. “Can’t Find a Reason” has a classic country baseline with a nice melody and some softer beach rock. The EP’s sweetest track is the last, “Same Old Story,” which closes out the EP with a quieter folk-pop lullaby and a guitar solo done nice n fine. Catch them at Neck of the Woods on April 6. –Michelle Kicherer, Associate Editor

New Track: “Vintage Clothes” – Grant Pavol

Posted on:

Okay is the forthcoming EP from Grant Pavol, and will be released on cassette on May 17 via Shamir’s fledgling indie label Accidental Popstar Records. Today, we have received a sampling of the release, with its lead single,  “Vintage Clothes”. An acoustic guitar helps to set the folk scene. There is a sense of being a fly on the wall as a connection is almost made. Learning as the moments go by, the track captures an evolving, perceptive perspective. An unguarded honesty makes the song pensively powerful.

A Deli Premiere: Stacey Randol releases music video for “Songs in the Soil”

Posted on:

You may have noticed — if you’re an avid reader of the Deli — that we wrote about songwriter Stacey Randol‘s new LP Songs in the Soil earlier this month. We now have a special premiere to announce from that album: Randol has released the music video for the title track. You might find yourself confused watching the video, as the song’s psych groove and the film grain — along with Randol’s flowing white and earth-toned floral dresses — may make you think that you’re watching something from the Sixties. But this was indeed made in the late 2010s, and it continues a trend of indie artists releasing music videos made on film. Randol’s song calls for this aesthetic, and as you’ll see in the music video, they make a perfect match. Take a look at the video for "Songs in the Soil" below. – Will Sisskind

New Music Video: “Game Show” – Mumblr

Posted on:

In advance of their forthcoming album Genie, due out on April 1, Mumblr recently shared a video for their new single “Game Show”.  Transported to the sets of some classic TV shows, the song delicately opens up lyrically, with its protagonist’s apprehension over answering. Exploring the idea of missed opportunities and the domino effect/vicious cycle of depression, the song works to keep its cool before some much-appreciated rock ensues. Unfortunately, it sounds like this next album might be the end of the road for the Philly quartet, who shared this message along with the video.

It has been a fun ride sharing good and better and best times with beautiful people across this North American continent.

Oyster Kids’ “Losing My Mind” is an upbeat ode to self-doubt

Posted on:

Oyster Kids sing to those who need some solace on their ode to self-doubt, "Losing My Mind." The indie pop’s latest single is an upbeat anthem with lyrical undertones that match every mood you could possibly be in. The four-piece acknowledge that it’s okay to "lose your mind," and how it isn’t always simple to snap out of it. The atmospheric aloofness this hauntingly creative band produces has a special place in the deep roots of the L.A. music scene. Kayla Hay
