Anana Kaye releases “Blueberry Fireworks” video; plays The Crying Wolf 04.23

Posted on:

If I told you, "Hey, Anana Kaye‘s "Blueberry Fireworks" sounds a lot like a lost Kate Bush track," you’d say, "You always say that a female artist with an idiosyncratic voice and a slow art rock feel sounds like Kate Bush." But Kaye, along with musical conspirator Irakli Gabriel, mark Bush as an influence, along with other soulful artists of the past such as Bowie, Leonard Cohen, and Nick Cave. "Blueberry Fireworks" and its music video touch on subjects of alienation and isolation, along with a futile search for identity, with mannequins and fruit involved in the mix. Kaye’s second album Detour will drop later this year, and she and Gabriel will play The Crying Wolf on April 23rd. Take a look at the music video for "Blueberry Fireworks" below. – Will Sisskind

New Track: “Body” – Cocordion

Posted on:

tv.ant.race, the forthcoming album from Cocordion, is scheduled to arrive on May 3, and the noise-pop trio recently shared its lead single “Body”. The song embodies a celestial cathedral of sound within intimate confines. It has a confessional yet warped dynamic – bedroom pop from futuristic, space-age chambers. You can catch Cocordion at Anthorna Gallery on Monday, April 1 as part of a lineup that also includes fellow locals Magnetic The Shaman, Moon-Liters/Millennium Development Goals, and Gash.

Video Premiere: Maren Celest “Nightshade”

Posted on:

We are proud to be able to premiere the new single and video for “Nightshade” from Maren Celest. This track is taken from her debut solo LP, I Saw The Sun, which will be released on April 19th via Candor Arts.

“Nightshade” is the second single, following “Petrichor”, from the new album, and it is darkly haunting sonically, visually and lyrically. This is a Psych Folk element to Maren’s music that gives it a slightly mystical feeling as well. She is also an accomplished photographer and the a collection of her images will accompany the vinyl release of the album.

Buzz Alert! Animal Show brings punk rock home on 03.29 at Baby’s All Right

Posted on:

Since the fall of CBGB in 2006, punk rock (and its sibiling garage rock) lost its footing in NYC, and punk bands have been roaming around the concrete jungle for years now, playing obscure venues while disguising themselves as something else. Punk is dead, right? Not if you ask Animal Show who is the epitome of a bygone era of music with their hard pounding drumbeats, charged power chords, and fabulous fashion sense. Animal show delivers punk rock the way it was meant to be heard, no tricks or gimmicks, and it’s currently in a New York groove, having just returned from a tour that included stops through SXSW and New Orleans. Their next stop, which is not to be missed, is here at home at Baby’s All Right on March 29. Check out their new record titled simply EP, out now. – Rene Cobar

Pinky Pinky’s “Do Me Dirty (Charlie)” is breezy, salacious fun

Posted on:

Pinky Pinky first brought a luscious punk attitude to their garage jams on their self-titled debut EP. On their new single, "Do Me Dirty (Charlie)," the young trio—vocalist/drummer Anastasia Sanchez, guitarist Isabelle Fields, bassist Eva Chambers—applies a breezy, humorous quality to their retro-sounding jangle pop. The track’s swinging, Merseybeat groove comes from a familiar place, but it’s also unlike anything else, as they bring forth a puppy love melody to their otherwise lustful affirmation.

"Do Me Dirty (Charlie)" is the first offering following their Hot Tears EP. Juan Rodríguez

Hello Yello’s debut EP, Love Wins

Posted on:

It’s refreshing to find a band so hard to describe. Hello Yello’s debut EP, Love Wins, is rock n roll and it’s punk; it’s hip hop and it’s soul; it’s touched with pop and straight punk rock. Track “Without Me” starts with distorted, Hendrix-esq guitar work that pans trippily across your speakers then opens into emo-rock and surprisingly into thrashing punk. “Feel That Again” mixes poppy hip hop with a pure, emo vibe (even purer is the music video).

They’ve got a touch of the Lenny Kravitz (ever heard his B sides?), are like a cooler version of Evanescence, and to be blunt: they just have something really likeable about them. They’re young, talentful, creative, and they’ve got heart. Hello Yello is Dylan (22, vocals and guitar), his younger brother Jaden (20, bass) and their friend Martin (20, drums). Come see them at The New Parish on April 11th. – Michelle Kicherer, Associate Editor

Lennox C.B. – New Dream Pop Album “Night Light” from Multi-Intrumentalist

Posted on:

Lennox C.B. is a multi-instrumentalist solo artist who just released a new record “Night Light”. We’re talking dream pop with some psychedelic and folk influences. The track “She Gets Me High” is a very dreamy track that floats along with many different synth noises scattered about the track. It’s certainly a night time track which makes sense considering the title of the album. As per the artist:  “The album is dedicated to all the small lights that guide us through the darkness.” – Kris Gies
