Phantasmosis supplies sweet escapism in new record “Sentimental”

Posted on:

Earlier this month Providence’s Phantasmosis (Sam D’Orazio) released Sentimental, his latest fantastical record. The album supplies the right dose of sweet escapism with psych-surfy ballads like “Heaven/Hell” and power pop tracks like “Green Eyes” offering variety throughout the journey. Phantasmosis lathers each track with intent: if indie-rock is the theme, the guitars will rip; if jazzy elements are in order, the saxophone will produce a buttery smooth solo—there is no subtlety, and that is great. Phantasmosis’ music has the appeal of Beach Boys and the eccentricity of Flaming Lips, he serves that shake in his unique manner, and it is rich. The new release should keep him occupied for the fall, and we are looking forward to new show announcements soon. We are streaming the entrancing track “Do You Feel It???” from the new record below. – Rene Cobar

Listen to Blame Baby’s lively new single, “Headcase”

Posted on:

On "Headcase," power-pop trio Blame Baby realize that our younger years aren’t that different from our adult life. "Memory of memories at full assault/Revealed in reverie identities true and false," vocalist Jesse Johnson sings over a chugging guitar line, a thought that came from a conversation he had with his younger sister. Despite the anxiety he feels, the band’s jovial debut single pulses with an anthemic energy that aims for the rafters.

Black Heart Saints Release New EP ‘Misery’

Posted on:

A heavy southern rock band with a heavier name, Black Heart Saints’ new EP titled Misery blends together heavy southern soul and 80’s power rock. To call it alternative would be a huge understatement.

Altogether the EP is an extensive, solid blend of head-pounding rock. Earth-shattering vocals eclipse the limitless melodies carried by the band with a vigorous consistency. Full of electricity, they have everything they need to make even more great material.

Addicted to Love hits all the sweet spots. Showmanship and stylization only they could pull off has created one amazing cover. All necessary adjustments, made, this flows perfectly into the rest of the Black Heart Saints EP.

MILLY share hypnotic new single “Crazy Horse,” play Teragram Ballroom on 11/6

Posted on:

Before moving to Los Angeles, multi-instrumentalist Brendan Dyer had begun to take a homespun approach to the music that spoke to him from his hometown of Bristol, Connecticut. Dyer’s new single under his new project with his live band MILLY, "Crazy Horse," solidifies his experimental urges while deepening his songwriting focus. The track’s slow, reverb-drenched rhythm befits his increasing lethargy, the direct aftermath of disappointment, finding some solace in the gleaming chord arrangements he plays—before he builds it up into a fuzzed-out, searing conclusion. It sounds simple in construction, but there’s a lot of details Dyer tucks in within its steady, programmed drum beat, whether it’s subtle touches of the piano or wistful bursts of slide guitar.

With two official singles under their belts, MILLY is joining seminal shoegazers Swervedriver on their entire tour in October and November—including a stop at Teragram Ballroom on November 6. Juan Rodríguez
