New Weller EP Available for Streaming & Download

Posted on:

Produced by Jake Ewald (Modern Baseball/Slaughter Beach, Dog) and released via Honest Face Records, Career Fair, the new EP from the trio of Weller, bottles a transferable upbeat vibe, while simultaneously hitting on a reeled-in personal level. That balance of unfiltered honesty with an infectious opening up of musicality catches your ears and won’t let go.

Garage Pop band The Rizzos releases “Mom Prom” + plays The Gutter on 06.09

Posted on:

If you belong to that layer of humanity that has been forever compromised by a prom night gone awry, look no further than Brooklyn-based band, The Rizzos. Their new single "Prom Mom" shows a self-assured band with garage rock/doo wop inclinations that doesn’t take itself too seriously. Better produced than their rougher, punkier previous release, the song is a lament about missing senior prom, having instead to spend the night at home – getting drunk with mom… The plodding verses tackle common teenage girl fantasies (it’s all about boys!), in a crescendo of frustration and volume that highlights the confident and cool vocals of lead singer/guitarist Meg (Rizzo?). The band is leaving for a short East Coast tour and will be back in Brooklyn with a live show at the Gutter on June 9th. – Madeleine Grossman

Free Download: “Roll” – Work Drugs

Posted on:

Hushed, seductive vocals coast along the sonic streets lined with percussion and keys in Work Drugs‘s new single, “Roll”. The sensual beacon of saxophone guides with its weaving, smooth sound as the song’s mysterious-night aesthetic fits neatly into the recently warmer climate. Work Drugs will be performing next in Philly on Saturday, June 11 at Boot & Saddle with Church Girls.

PREMIERE: Casey Burge – “Comin’ Fulfilled”

Posted on:

We’d like to start your morning off with a fresh track from a familiar face and a new label. Casey Burge, mostly known for his involvement in his other bands Minden and No Lala, has released a solo track on new artist development group and record label Golden Brown, based in Portland.

A total of three PDX artists, including Burge, made it onto the first in the label’s international Perfectly Toasted Compilation series and their debut release, Perfectly Toasted, Vol. 1. His track "Comin’ Fulfilled" opens up the compilation and gives a great introduction to the style and feel the label is going for-ultimate chill.

Make your gloomy morning a little more enjoyable by giving Casey’s song a listen below and sneaking a peek at the rest of the Perfectly Toasted, Vol. 1, which comes out June 17th.

New Music Video: “We Are One” – Mose Giganticus

Posted on:

It’s been nearly six years since we’ve heard any new music from local metal keytar maestro Matt Garfield, a.k.a. Mose Giganticus. Well, Garfield is back (on drums), and has teamed up with Red Planet producer Joe Smiley (on guitar). Check out the duo’s beautifully lit music video for "We Are One"! Directed by Christopher Kayfield and Garfield, the heavy post-rock track is the follow-up to 2010’s Gift Horse (which was released via Relapse Records), and is the first from the band’s new ongoing digital Singles Series.

THE NURSERY – SILVER DOLLAR ROCKIN’

Posted on:

The Nursery are a pop rock group from right here in Toronto. They just released a brand new track last month called "Hexes + Oh’s". This tune has indie rock drums with funky basslines, smooth guitars and tinklin’ keys to add a nice spice on top of the pop rock platform. It’s like early 2000’s indie rock…Hot Hot Heat style…The Killers but happier. Go see em tomorrow (May 26) at the Silver Dollar Room with Hot Kid, Yeomans and Madame Psychosis. – Kris Gies
