Mood Music: Sinless – “Cool”

Posted on:

Being cool definitely isn’t a sin for local guitar pop group Sinless. Their new track, which debuted last week on the Wild Honey Pie, is a fuzzy bedroom pop song calling back to all the 60’s era sounding love songs, hazed by dreamy vocals and adoring lyrics.

It’s the kind of track that you’ll want to play over and over again, especially on this chilly morning. Enjoy "Cool" below and keep on the look out for Melodie, due out in October.

The Two Lips serve up garage rock vibes on latest single “Repeat”

Posted on:

What if you spun your dial to the left and accidentally picked up a radio transmission from Mars? I’d like to think it’d sound something like The Two Lip‘s latest release "Repeat," a blitzed out garage rock track whose screeching opening sounds like it was snatched from a 1950’s outer-space B-movie. Despite the extraterrestrial leanings, the Austin-based three piece’s music is definitely of this earth–grounded primarily by heavy, fuzzy guitar riffs that cut the listener down with a visceral force. Though the track deals in garage hooks, the band blends in strong psych rock elements keeping things weird and oddly compelling. If music for funky martians is maybe your thing, check out "Repeat" streaming below.-Olivia Sisinni

Lacei releases debut single “Cold Moon”, plays at the Study on 10/21

Posted on:

Lacei make their introduction with a cooing embrace on "Cold Moon", a song that finds a nexus point between folk, pop and electronica. It sounds like a weighty combination if you list them all together, but the duo of Jessica Lombardozzi and Viktor Ahlgren bring it all together effortlessly by weaving over a pleasant strum that turns into a driving, drum n’ bass-inspired chorus. This is the moment when Lombardozzi lays out her pastel-toned vocals, a quality that gives this project its distinctive character.

The duo is performing at The Study on October 21st. – Juan Rodríguez

Posted on:

Despite the word “slow” in their moniker, NYC based duo band Slow Sugar is reeling in listeners at supersonic speed with the release of their single “Pieces” (streaming below). Following the triumphant debut of “Hypnotic Love” (also streaming, released about a month ago), “Pieces” will drown your ears in a sea of rich harmonics born from cascading chord progressions, a sonorous, downtempo beat, and Danielle Harris’ sensual, soulful vocals. Catch them live at Rockwood Music Hall on October 4 and get ready—an EP is underway. – Ashley Muniz

Beccs celebrates release of ‘Unfound Beauty’ at Mercury on 09.25

Posted on:

NYC based singer songwriter Beccs may hail from Boston, but she sure strikes a very Manhattan chord with her first official video for single ‘Therapy" (streaming below). Dripping with orchestral and even operaic character, this is a soulful song about the damage created by the duplicity of human impulses, written after a long period of healing, which – unsurprisingly – ended up bringing Beccs a period of intense artistic inspiration. ‘Therapy’ will be featured in the artist’s upcoming album Unfound Beauty (out on September 21st), whose release will be celebrated at the Mercury Lounge on September 25th..

Expand Your Mind with Zozma’s Psychedelic Production

Posted on:

The Deli Portland has had an eye on Zozma for a while, and we’re glad to see that more listeners have been turned onto them as well. Psych gets used more as an added descriptor to other types of genres, or as an element of an album, but there exists a lack of local, modern acts that define the genre.

Enter Zozma, a collection of spiritually connected beings that create more than just music; they create a movement. Their music roots itself in traditonal Middle Eastern piety, powerfully united with ethereal vocals and a mastered understanding of instruments otherworldly. You’ll find yourself fully consumed by its aural dominance as if to be in a trance-like state, exactly like what is imagined when thinking of the psychedelic tunes dominated the 60’s.

Be sure to catch Zozma during one of their occasional performances around town. Their live performances sound exactly like their recordings, elevated by a hypnotizing and engaging stage presence. It’s a musical adventure every appreciator needs to experience.

Congrats on the Artist of the Month win, Zozma!

Color Tongue unveil video for ‘Sprout,” play the Knit on 10.10

Posted on:

The Deli NYC is delighted to premiere this deliciously lo-fi and bizarrely sci-fi video of ‘Sprout,’ a recent single by our current Artist of the Month Color Tongue. The colorful, heavily tactile sequence of images perfectly matches the song’s organic sound, based on a vivid amalgamation of Devo-esque synths, crunchy guitars, and vocals that straddle the line between ’60s pop and avant-psych a la’ Animal Collective. This is music in which fun, imagination and catchiness go hand in hand (in hand) – what else can you ask for? Oh right… a great live show! You’ll have that on October 10th at The Knit!
