“ORACLE666 is about drifting into the liminal space between real and surreal, floating through ethereal pastel clouds, and dreaming future memories.” — ORACLE 666’s official biography
“If I can remember my dreams, they’re usually about people I don’t talk to anymore. Its usually them filling me in on their lives with so much detail that when I wake up it feels real and it feels like we actually caught up. Sometimes I wish I could reach out to these people and see how accurate my dreams are. But usually we drifted apart for a reason haha.” — anonymous
To anyone curious about ORACLE666’s new EP, TIMEBENDER, recently out on Ghostcat Media, we’d say start with the two quotes and the music video above especially cuz they all get across the “freed from the constraints of time and space “time and space do not apply here” lucid dreaming “half way between bliss and despair” aesthetic of the record to quote one of it’s songs in particular (“Dissociative State”) but today we’re here to feature the track “Changes” and to make the official premier-day music video drop here on The Deli…
…so hopefully you’re up for some ethereal, beat-driven tunes like if Brian Eno covered the entirety of Björk‘s Post– but with a vocalist who’s more Gainsbourg-era Jane Birkin than Björk-ish even if there’s a hint of “Hyperballad” still there but when it comes to ORACLE666’s feathery upper-register it’s Birkin all the way with their vocals fluttering like a gossamer butterfly pushed along by airy keyboards and thumping techno beats…
…and lyrics about how “every day I dream of you / bleeding out next to me / kissing you recklessly / feels like ecstasy” but “wondering why you wouldn’t look me in the eye” which is a valid thing to question and btw I’m not entirely sure I got the “bleeding out next to me” line right maybe that’s must my demented mishearing bud kudos if not…
…and speaking of Jane Birkin there’s a case to be made that the producer of “Changes,” namely d.ka$$hu, or Meviuš if you prefer, is basically the Serge Gainsbourg of the current indie-emo-goth-shoegaze-synthwave scene or at least that’s how we see it meaning they can often be found leaning against a wall outside some cool new venue you never heard of dragging on a cigarette with a Mona Lisa expression perhaps holding forth on the latest indie-pop ingénue or hip hop emcee they’re working with lately then cracking a self-deprecating joke without fail which if you’re into those elements it’s worth checking out Mevius’s latest single “Glaciated,” a darkwave meets hip-hop track featuring a memorable diss about how despite being so cold “my fingers are blue” still it’s “warmer than when I was with you” and all we can say is zing!…
…but hey we digress so we’ll quote OCACLE666 once again this time about being “inspired by holograms, Eastern European folklore, underground internet art communities [and] working across mediums to create immersive worlds” like the immersive worlds conjured up in the “Changes” music video premiering on YouTube at 10AM which features eye-popping animation by video artist/designer Serotines who nails the vibe in visual form setting the action on a neon-hued digital island like if the clasic Myst video game were remade but with a strong Kawaii aesthetic and a bunch of cute but vaguely unsettling alien caterpillars scurrying about, coupling and decoupling, at one point going to a library or maybe its someone’s study–we’re not even gonna try to decipher any of this–but it’s cool visually and has a sweetly reassuring ending…
…and if you need more from Serotines you’re lucky they’ve got a playable video game version of their art featuring similar characters on their website not to mention tradable playing cards and tote bags and finally for more deep background on the auteur behind ORACLE666 or vice-versa, Julia Sinelnikova, CLICK HERE to read our feature from a few months back not that time and space mean much in the liminal space you’ll be entering…
