Today bad girl DJ Lumia is dropping a new track and music video, “Numbers.” “Sometimes I leave my phone at home and bring my flip phone to the studio instead, it gives me peace of mind. Without even realizing it, the samples of phones ringing paralleled this practice and became the primary theme for this song.”

Following the model-DJ-influencer-native-New-Yorker multihyphenate’s debut single, “New York”–a techno dance track that would be a match made in heaven with a runaway show–the “Numbers” release coincides with Lunar New Year, which is a significant alignment because of her Asian American heritage.

This brand new beat ushers us into the nostalgic world of blinged out flip phones and Juicy Couture tracksuits, as the music video takes us on a lil’ trip following around some NYC hotties (and Lumia’s friends—Anaa Saber, Clara Perlmutter, Rayvin Huger, Bella Banos, Lauren Ferreria, and Baby Coco). What’s even better is, apparently, each girl is dressed in a piece from Lumia’s very own personal collection of Juicy tracksuits…I’m impressed by the sheer volume!

Mixing nostalgia and her authentic city-girl vibe, Lumia tells The Deli, “This song encapsulates the early 2000’s in New York. I happen to be a vintage Juicy Couture collector, so I got my friends together, dressed them in Juicy, borrowed some old phones from this refurbished tech company Back Market, and that really ended up tying together the themes.”

What to look forward to from Lumia? “I’m looking forward to this year. This is my second single release, and I really love the project I’m working on. I’m excited to start playing” Numbers” when I’m out – I’m opening for Chase West at Classic Car Club on February 8th, and will definitely be playing a few released and unreleased tracks there.” OK Period! We out! xx
