Exposing yourself to so much music can leave you a bit exhausted, even somewhat jaded. Bands start to overlap, and sometimes they can seem somewhat stale, overdone, and somewhat indistinguishable from one another. You look for the subtle differences that separate acts. This problem doesn’t really seem to be the case with Philly by way of Maryland emo act Modern Baseball. Playing straightforward, chord-based music, the simplicity of it all is complemented nicely by tasteful guitar work. Their lyrics are often lamenting – subjects of failed relationships but with a certain resonating relevance that has bits of nostalgia that cut deep. Their LP Sports was released at the end of last year, and is already going through its second go-around with its re-release via Run For Cover Records. Check them out tonight at Golden Tea House in support of New Jersey emo/punk act Dads and acoustic punk/folk veteran Emperor X. Also making an appearance will be Philly faves the Stable Boys and resuscitated, energy-infused two-piece Omar. Golden Tea House, (Please contact one of the acts or the venue for more info.), 7:30pm, $5 – $7, All Ages – Ed Newton
