This evening’s stacked lineup at Golden Tea House with Little Big League, Kal Marks, Literature, and Psychic Teens has been moved to Duff Gardens. In August, Little Big League released their debut LP, These Are Good People (Tiney Engines). Their sound is a departure from most of the members’ previous endeavors; it’s a callback to 90’s guitar rock filled with angsty riffs and the haunting voice of Zauner breathing over heavy drums and ambient chords. Boston’s Kal Marks bring a heavier, burned-out rock to the stage. Powerful lyrics are twisted and spat out by lead singer Carl Shane, whose unusual voice is accented by overpowering instrumentals. Lightening up the mood will be Austin transplants, Literature. They play a jangly type of rock ‘n’ roll, burgeoning on power pop. While their songs have a lot more bounce, their lyrics occasionally juxtapose their music, mixing in heavy topics with danceable beats. Rounding out the bill and bringing the darkness will be Psychic Teens. Playing unsettling, crashing noise over deep, goose bump-inducing vocals, the band takes goth and puts it through the post-punk grinder. The night seems like a wonderful rock ‘n’ roll potpourri.
