Returning for a second year in the city where it all began, the CBGB festival expects to feature approximately 500 bands and solo acts appearing from Oct. 9 through 13 at a myriad of bars, nightclubs and other spaces throughout Manhattan and Brooklyn. Along with legendary acts and artists long associated with the iconic brand, a number of emerging artist are scheduled to perform as well.
One such performer is the charmingly quirky Katie Costello, who recently relocated from LA to NYC, scheduled to take the stage at The Living Room on Oct. 10th. Her recent appearance at Cameo Gallery in support of rising UK songstress Lucy Rose had everyone in attendance marveling at Katie’s combination of wit and musical ability. Despite her sarcasm laced banter, Katie is a serious musician whose songs have been featured on CW shows “90210,” “One Tree Hill,” and ABC’s “Private Practice.” Her impressive vocal range and sensitivity on immediately appealing cuts like “I Will Surrender” (streaming) can’t help but win her new fans. The CBGB festival also includes film events as well as panel discussion and music-industry conferences, sharing similarities with Austin’s SXSW and the CMJ festival right here in NY (with which will quite amazingly overlap on 10.13). A full schedule can be found on the festival’s website including information on how to obtain badges to the shows. – Dave Cromwell
