Jaye Bartell‘s "Light Enough" is a record born out of a very particular kind of self-inflicted seclusion: the paradoxical one happening in one the most populated pieces of land in the world: Brooklyn. Somebody‘s referred to this phenomenon as "The Lonesome Crowded West." Greenpoint, specifically, is where the songwriter moved to in 2013, from Asheville, NC (he’s originally from Massachusetts), looking – we assume – for inspiration after a series of early releases. The only embeddable song from the album, ‘Laundry Line’ (streaming) perfectly represent the full album, echoing at once Leonard Cohen’s intimate existentialism and Syd Barrett’s droney, suspended melodies (Barrett’s fans should check out opener ‘G & Me‘). The mostly acoustic guitar work also deserves a mention, for its beautiful simplicity. The fact that Baby’s All Right booked Jaye is an extra reason to pay attention to this artist, so you may want to check out his upcoming show on October 16.
