GUNK Opening for R. Stevie Moore at JB’s Jan. 22

I kept coming across the band name GUNK in DIY listings numerous times last year before any music or information had surfaced from the group, which obviously piqued my interest. The band feautures Josh Mackie (Your Children is Beautiful) and Nate Dionne (Glocca Morra, ex-Snowing), and you can check out their impressive debut LP Gradual Shove HERE that is available for purchase via local indie label Ranch Records. GUNK will also be hauling their fuzzy, punk-ish garage-indie rock up from Philly basements and out of its warehouses to Johnny Brenda’s stage this evening to open for eccentric grandfather of lo-fi recordings R. Stevie Moore as well as Jimmy Whispers, the new project from solo project from former Light Pollution frontman James Cicero. Johnny Brenda’s, 1201 N. Frankford Ave., 9pm, $12, 21+ – Alexis V.
