FYI on DIYs in PHL: Philly Punx Picnic

An idea conjured up 5 years ago based upon the visions of several other music picnics around the U.S., the Philly Punx Picnic, which started out as a simple outdoor acoustic show and BBQ, has now grown into a 6-day festival featuring over 40 bands, BBQ, homebrews, multiple block parties, a show under the freeway at FDR Skatepark, and much more. Founded by two bright, motivated punks Nyssa Capps and Chris Tsonos, the Philly Punx Picnic aims to showcase local Philly bands and locations, support touring groups, and celebrate punk on the 4th of July. The DIY event has doubled in size each and every year, thus bringing it to “festival” status, which the two say makes things a whole lot more “real” as it has become an attraction that people all over are coming to experience. Find out more about the Philly Punx Picnic, which will be going on from June 29 – July 4, from our recent interview with Capps and Tsonos HERE.
