Mad scientists Kohoutek will be bringing their epic jams to Kung Fu Necktie tonight. Made up of Scott Allison on homemade electronics, Scott Verrastro on drums, Chris Grier on electric guitar, Craig Garrett on bass, and John Stanton on electric guitar, the improv collective aims to push the already expansive boundaries of psych rock by blending atmospheric noise with patient guitars that morph into thunderous riffs to form crushing multi-layered, instrumental waves to drown their audiences in. With influences that guide their sonic exploration to “Claude Debussy composing on too much of Woodstock’s fabled brown acid, or Bitches Brew on some serious downers,” the local five-piece brings you on a journey where being and nothingness might occupy the same space. Don’t be afraid to freak out, man! It’s all part of the ride. Kung Fu Necktie, 1250 N. Front St., 8pm, $8, 21+ – Q.D. Tran
