Philly noise-punks Cool Points continue to impress with anthems that seamlessly mesh punk aesthetics with early 90s shoegaze, and its ironic yet unforgettable malaise. Straightforward and nearing unabashedly earnest, Cool Points’ instrumentation and equally memorable lyricism renders tracks like “Crucial Turds” evocative of femme-fronted post-punks like the Shop Assistants and Black Tambourine. Coupled with an essential amount of nonchalance definitive of contemporaries like Best Coast (before she was everyone’s fave) and newer acts like Bleached and Throwing Up, Cool Points’ discography hums with unapologetically memorable narratives like “Dangerous, But Kinda Flirty.” Shredding hard, “Dangerous…” opens unrelenting and progresses into a melodically fitting foundation for what can best be described as a relatable passive aggressive confession undoubtedly paying homage to its direct but coy namesake. Parenthetically reminiscent of Bratmobile meets Hole (pre-Live Through This), Cool Points is set to share the stage with equally awesome ladies like New York’s Juniper Rising and Philly’s own Amanda X, as a part of the reoccurring rock and roll collaborative coined Dress Fest.
