As the summer fades into mere memory, The Mary Veils, the lo-fi, psych vehicle of Brian Von Uff, rears its gnarly head with Slacker Paint. Low-and-slow, smoke-saturated songs retain their flavor, accented by raw, surf tones. Through the haze of fuzz-laced guitar riffs, the vocals leak through, as a seemingly lackadaisical, calming presence. In the midst of those fire-under-ones-feet grooves and swells, a roaring, untamed blaze of instrumentation waits to engulf at any moment, which makes for a surprisingly most excellent debut.
