The demise of the strangely wonderful Ween definitely was taken hard by some of our Deli staff and friends, especially those who grew up or went to school in the Philadelphia/Bucks County area during the band’s heyday. Admittedly, we were a bit confused by Aaron Freeman’s (formerly Gene Ween) 2012 release Marvelous Clouds, a tribute album to Rod McKuen. However, with his first post-Ween LP of originals, Freeman (Partisan Records), you’ll find him returning to the type of songwriting that made the band a cult favorite, albeit with even more pop leanings. Obviously, we miss Deaner’s rock god guitar work, but listening to the new full-length record is giving us a warm, fuzzy feeling that we haven’t had in a very long time. You can check out the album in its entirety over at Spin, and Freeman will be stopping by Johnny Brenda’s on Friday, October 3.
