Blues rockers, The Corsets have got some great tunes on their album “Are you Lonely, Are you Scared”. With vocal harmonies, f-x ridden guitar riffs, and an overall infectious groove, The Corsets have created a trifecta of fantastic-ness. “Lady” off their EP bursts open with driving guitar, and snare, and breaks into a happily addicting guitar lick. A minute in to the song the vocals get to shine in their own gritty dirty way, well, up until the face-melting guitar solo that’s filled with those toe-curling notes you can’t get enough of! All in all, these guys have got something good going on, listen to the album and take the time to see ’em live – especially when patio beers can be involved! Check out their Facebook to keep up to date with upcoming shows. -Courtney Chalapenko
Big Name Actors
Big Name Actors are a rock trio based in Toronto. Although part originally came from Halifax, NS. They combine Maritimes pop rock with 90’s grunge for an excellent musical combo. They released their EP "Morning Sun" in May of 2014. The opening tune "Talkin To Myself" starts with a rumbling drum beat which the bass joins in simply n’ smoothly. The guitar kicks in with some mini-shreds over the thumpin’ rhythm as the song continues to build. It all comes together with a smooth chorus followed by a tight breakdown/bridge. Cool, catchy tune! See them July 3rd @ Bovine Sex Club with our friends Flamingo Bay and The Ballroom Babies.-Kris "Big City" Gies
Meeko Cheech EP Release @ Handlebar
We are gearing up for Meeko Cheech’s latest EP out this Saturday June 27th. Toronto’s weirdo rockers give their listeners a heavy cognet dark progression of their multi-instrumental synth-psycho rock with their latest EP, Miss Bolivia. The single is an epic tale of sound with a stereophonic vocals that whisper to a dark adventure of guitars & drums that fold in and out to wicked synths & organs. We are totally hooked! See them Saturday @ Handlebar bring it all in! Go to their bandcamp on Saturday and hear the entire EP.
A Fellow Ship @ Johnnyland
A Fellow Ship is instantly gratifying! Sail the ship with Toronto’s latest folk fellows, their self titled EP was released last week at the Silver Dollar and is a an uplifting jubilee of poetic warmth. “Hit the Road” beats to a dancing drum of fiddles, mandolins and spirited harmonies that foot stomps its way to the end. “Wild Tonight” will get you going wild with outstanding boy-girl vocals. Listen as they take a step back with “In My Bones”; a quiet track that takes you on a heartbreak journey with soft harmonies and heartfelt guitars, that finishes with a mad piano. Don’t miss these fantastic friends get lively @ Johnnyland July 3rd with our friends Pins & Needles.
Murder Murder @ the Handlebar
An empty fuel tank and a flat tire lead two couples down a terror-riddled road to Murder Murder. A cast of twisted individuals with a bloodgrass thirst hailing from the frozen forests of Northern, Ontario. With each slash of a throat or stab through a chest, listen and you can hear Murder Murder behind every gory scene. Watch their lastest video, for their full length album release "From the Stillhouse" on June 25th. Check out this talented bluegrass, horror ballad bunch @ the Handlebar Wed 6/17 for NXNE.

Stuck on Planet Earth @ the Rivoli
We totally want to be Stuck on Planet Earth with these guys! Gritty, gutty alternative sound that appeals to the senses. Excellent vocals that pulls the listener right into the intense emotion of the guitar, bass and drums. Stuck on Planet Earth, takes a modern approach to 90’s alternative roots with honest lyrics and motivational songs. “Fast Forward” their latest single, comes at you like a speeding train, driving hard to stop and go rock n’ roll sounds. They will have your body moving, don’t miss Adam, Al and Andrew this Saturday 6/13 night @ the Rivoli, see them with our friends Bloody Diamonds.
Mexican Slang @ the Garrison TONIGHT
Muy Bueno. If you like your rock n roll mean, sleazy, noisy and edgy, you’ve found home. Mexican Slang pounds out cavernous, beautiful tunes driven by reckless sludgy guitar and garage-rock drums, with sickly sweet Annabelle’s vocals front and centre for the whole ride. The energy and the grime of their A-side “Fever” paired with the erie pulse of “Goatlord” makes for a quick and dirty tumble through 5 minutes of adrenaline and attitude. There doesn’t seem to be any one defining influence over these three, other than a strong love for fuzztones and brevity, getting the point across loud, proud, and in a hurry. You can catch them in their all their distorted glory at The Garrison, Saturday June 6th. -Cody Wright
Frankie and Jimmy @ This Ain’t Hollywood
This 2 piece plays stripped down bluesy folk tunes that come straight from the garage. They released their album "Scream the Blues" in 2013 and it’s nothing but fun to listen to. The first tune "Beautiful City" is a dirty blues song mainly utilizing a just kick drum and harmonica. It’s quick and to the point. It sets the tone for what’s to come. That’s when they fire into "Let It Rock" which is a fast paced guitar rocker that’s basically a 2 piece Johnny B. Goode. I have heard and seen the name Frankie & Jimmy around town but I had no idea their tunes were this cool. They remind me a lot of King Khan & BBQ Show which is a 2-piece garage oldies type band as well. Frankie & Jimmy hit up This Aint Hollywood on Friday. -Kris"Big City"Gies
