Video Premiere: King Willow – Galapagos

Posted on:

We’re excited to premiere the new music from the Bay Area based sister duo, King Willow. Their new single, Galapagos is an addictive acoustic pop track that tells a story of love relationships and the need for freedom.

Sisters, Amanda and Julianna Salguero make up the twin chambers of King Willow’s wistfully beating heart. With a sound some have likened to The Head and the Heart and First Aid Kit, their original music shows a range from slower huskier numbers to upbeat and clever pop anthems. East Coast natives and current San Franciscans, these two bicoastal babes bring humor and grace to indie folk/pop.

"Galapagos" is the story of a love gone stale – that point in a relationship where staying together is simply easier than breaking up. Two lovers with the opposite problem fight it out in the music video – their passion takes a comically dark turn as the two seek their revenge." – King Willow

King Willow is celebrating their EP release on March 23rd at Amnesia in San Francisco.
8:30pm, $7

Rara Replica Releases New Music Video – “Fever Dream” for EP Release Feral Heart

Posted on:

We’re excited for you to check out San Francisco-based trio Rara Replica! They are releasing their very first EP entitled Feral Heart, due out on March 1, 2017. You can see their first ever music video for "Fever Dream" – which takes the viewer through a psychedelic, cautionary tale of how Santa Vanidad came to be.

At the forefront, Katya Lopez paints a dramatic narrative with her powerful vocals and experienced instrumental performance. On guitar, Chris Palmer seamlessly glides between rhythm and lead. His delivery weaves together dreamy soundscapes and gritty solos. On drums, Steve Hinan, adds the solid backdrop whether it be for a driving psychedelic guitar solo or a rock beat with a punch.

Looking to escape a life of factory-made songs and shrinking creative space, Rara Replica takes risks and takes names. Collectively, this power trio fuses carefully crafts songs with the soul of jazz artists and heart of metal musicians.

Rara Replica attributes its name as an adaptation of a Bikini Kill song title, revamped to “strange replica” in Spanish. Staying true to their mission, Rara Replica aims to push the listener and challenge the world of plastic music to embrace the beautifully unconventional.

Q&A: New Perspectives on a Blue Harp: Amelia Romano Speaks About Her Music and Travels

Posted on:

Guest writer, San Francisco based Michelle Robertson has written and conducted a great interview with Bay Area harpest, Amelia Romano.

"The blue harp is jarring. It punctuates the cityscape of San Francisco, refusing to blend in with the clear sky above. Just as out of place as the azure harp are the melodies emanating from it. We’ve seen this instrument before, in orchestral halls and mythological tales, but the music Amelia Romano’s harp creates is hardly classical nor folkloric.

Gazing upon the skyline captured in Romano’s “Legacy” video, one of the singles off her album New Perspectives, one begins to understand the tapestry of influences that compose the work. In this city, cultures and worlds collide, yet a humble cohesiveness emerges from such disparity…"

Xiu Xiu Play The Chapel in San Francisco – 3/19

Posted on:

San Jose’s Xiu Xiu performs live at the Chapel on March 19th. This legendary Bay Area will be playing all over the country in support of their new album, FORGET.

FORGET was recorded during a period of epic productivity for Xiu Xiu. While writing FORGET, they released the lauded Plays the Music of Twin Peaks, collaborated with Mitski on a song for an upcoming John Cameron Mitchell film, composed music for art installations by Danh Vo, recorded an album with Merzbow and scored an experimental reworking of the Mozart opera, The Magic Flute. All of this frantic, external activity lead to a softly damaged dreaminess and broadened intent that has not been heard before in other Xiu Xiu works. The album was produced by John Congleton (Blondie, Sigur Ros), Greg Saunier of Deerhoof and Xiu Xiu’s own Angela Seo.

Make sure you don’t miss this show!

Video Premiere: Nine Pound Shadow – Tell Me Why

Posted on:

We’re always pleased to premiere new Bay Area music! The Bay Area based band, Nine Pound Shadow has released a brand music video entitled, Tell Me Why. The band is comprised of brothers, Breandain and Christopher Langlois who create a very California sort of sound, one whose lineage and mythology goes as far back as, well, a family tree. Tell Me Why hinges on orchestral piano chords before building into a chantable refrain. This track is haunting and touching to no end.

Nine Pound Shadow will perform live in San Francisco at The Independent on February 21st.

Take a listen and make sure you support local artists!
