Premiere: Rin Tin Tiger – Dandelion Dream + News on Their New Album

Posted on:

The San Francisco based avant country rock band, Rin Tin Tiger is gearing up to release their third full length album entitled, Burial Grounds. There’s something very charming about the music Rin Tin Tiger makes. You don’t see and hear a lot of country music coming out of the Bay Area as of late, but RTT has a way of using light reverb, and alternative rock compositional styles that probably draws you in a bit more than a traditional country band’s music would.  With that said, country is at the very forefront of their sound and it’s great that they’re not afraid of that. You can hear elements of Sonic Youth and meanderings of shoegaze and folk music in their songs as well.

We’re lucky to be able to premiere a fresh track from Rin Tin Tiger’s upcoming album called Dandelion Dream. Not all music has to be thrashy or pop oriented. Dandelion Dream is a simple love song that shows no false pretenses of trying to be something it’s not. If you’re looking for a RTT track that is faster paced, check out their first single, Small Cuts that Bleed A Lot. Their music is confident, fun and a bit different. Make sure you pre-order Burial Grounds in CD or digital format via their bandcamp or Itunes.

Rin Tin Tiger will be performing live at their double album release show with Owl Paws plus Growwler at The Independent on July 10th.

Kymberli’s Music Box Celebrates Ten Year Anniversary at Brick and Mortar – 6/20

Posted on:

Local promoter and founder of Kymberli’s Music Box Presents, Kymberli Jensen has been one of the biggest reasons why San Francisco has been inundated with neo psych rock and roll shows for the past decade. She has booked countless bands including, Dead Meadow, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Spindrift, Cosmonauts and The Warlocks, and has brought influential bands like Rain Parade and Mudhoney to local venues. She has also been a booking support to out- of-town bands who relocated to the Bay Area like The Asteroid #4, and has a true talent for event coordination. She has also been known to be a big support of the early careers of local bands like Cellar Doors and The Dilettantes.

In 2005, Jensen felt the local music scene needed a female voice and her first show was with The Dilettantes (which included member Joel Gion of the Brian Jonestown Massacre) at Lipo Lounge in China Town. Other shows at Cafe Du Nord, 12 Galaxies and Bottom of the Hill followed.

Kymberli is one of the first female independent bookers in the modern Bay Area rock scene and has opened doors for current female bookers like Ash Reiter of Hickey Fest, Jessie Woletz of Seaweed Sway Presents and the young women of Our House Presents. Tomorrow night Dead Meadow, White Manna, Skeletal Sykadeliks and DJ Jodie Artichoke will be performing at Kymberli’s Music Box Ten Year Anniversary at Brick and Mortar Music Hall. White Light Prism will be creating the psychedelic visuals for the show.

Make your way to this auspicious event to give thanks to a promoter who has contributed to the Bay Area live music scene for 10 years! The scene wouldn’t be what it is without her.

Editor’s note: Kymberli was one of the first people to embrace me when I arrived to the Bay Area as a music editor and promoter. She and I have a lot of mutual friends and history in the local and national music scene, and she has been nothing but supportive. She is inspiring and has great knowledge of the history of Bay Area and southern California rock music. It’s my honor to be another woman in the music scene who shares the same passion for music, art and live performance. Congrats from the Deli Magazine San Francisco! -je

Con Brio Streams New EP + Performs at Stern Grove – 8/9

Posted on:

Mmm, R&B! Garage rock is so prevalent in the Bay Area (and is music that we LOVE) that we at The Deli SF hope and dream for the moments we can share some sexy grooves that will make you dance and sway your days and nights away. The Oakland based ensemble, Con Brio is one of the Bay Area’s premiere R&B soul bands and you’ll find out why when you check out their debut EP, Kiss the Sun which is streaming via soundcloud.

Along with taking the time to listen to Con Brio’s album, we make a very serious suggestion that you check this energetic and entertaining band’s live show out for yourselves because the 18 year old lead singer,  Ezekiel "Ziek" McCarter’s lead performances resemble that of James Brown and Prince. Con Brio puts on a moving live show. The band is tight and has great chemistry and stage presence. You can see them perform for free at Stern Grove on August 9th!

Premiere: Battlehooch – Type One Error + Plays The Independent 6/19

Posted on:

The San Francisco based psych-garage rock band, Battlehooch has graced us with new music! The band describes their new song, Type One Error to be a relic that took years to sculpt into a compositional form they felt was suitable enough for recording and live performances:

"This song dates all the way back to our formative college days at UCSC. "Type One Error" was always a favorite of ours and kind of an homage to our love for stuff like Brian Eno’s early solo albums and other futuristic Glam Rockers. However, we were never able to nail it live or get a suitable recording back in the day. It eventually fell by the wayside until a couple years ago, we started jamming on it during band practice and it just clicked and everything fell into place. It has become a staple of our live shows ever since and has become much more of an epic beast since we’ve started playing it again. There’s a whole section in the middle where our horn player, Tom, builds up a crazy wall of interlocking sax loops right on the spot!"

Type One Error is part of a two song digital single. It’s meant to tide you over while we continue working on the follow up to our last EP, ‘Wink." – Battlehooch

We love music with a backstory. Don’t miss Battlehooch’s live performance at The Independent on June 19th with Sun Hop Fat, Bear Lincoln and Lords Of Sealand. Support local music!

n.Lannon Releases New Single – Another Love

Posted on:

The San Francisco based indie balladeer, n.Lannon has released a new single entitled, Another Love from his third upcoming full length album, Falling Inside. Falling Inside is due out on June 23rd on Badman Recording Co, and we’re excited to share this new single to encourage a stir of anticipation for his new collection of music. n.Lannon is so good at creating a full cauldron of tastefully attractive love songs. His music could be compared to Julian Casablancas and Ariel Pink, but n.Lannon has a slightly quieter, traditional take on indie alt music. This new track is lovely and we recommend you take a listen.

"Another Love captures the anxiety I was feeling right before my daughter Olive was born," explains Lannon. "I was having a hard time imagining what it was going to be like bringing another human into the world; did we have enough love, did we have what it was going to take mentally, physically and financially? I was looking answers, clues, trying to prepare, but I never felt totally ready – far from that really! Of course, it didn’t matter – she was born, and now I can’t imagine the world without her."

Vanwave Cool Ghouls and Calvin Love Support Jacco Gardner at Brick and Mortar Music Hall – 6/27

Posted on:

The San Francisco based folk rock group, Vanwave will be performing live at Brick and Mortar Music Hall on June 27th. The group will be support along with the local Beatles-esque rock group, Cool Ghouls (who have seemed to have slowed down from playing live over the last number of months) and the Canadian synth pop musician, Calvin Love who will expand the bill and create a nice flow of upbeat rock music for the headliner – Netherlands based psych rock star, Jacco Gardner.

Gardner likes to play San Francisco often, nonetheless you never know how many times he’s going to be around in the future so take your chance to see him on June 27th. You’ll also never be able to catch him with this particular line up, which is a nice eclectic mix of modern independent rock music. Make your way out and support this show!!

Jet Trash Releases New Single – Photography is Over

Posted on:

The San Francisco garage surf rock band, Jet Trash has released a new single entitled, Photography is Over. This band has just emerged in the last couple of years, but they’re enjoying some nice attention for their upcoming debut self titled EP due out on July 14th on Burger Records imprint, Wiener Records.

Jet Trash know what it means to be a quintessential West Coast band. They proudly carry the torch of their predecessors The Sonics and The Ventures, joining the ranks of aforementioned Bay Area contemporaries Ty Segall and Thee Oh Sees in cranking out modern indie-rock updates on classic ’60s garage-surf. Armed with vintage Fenders and reverb-soaked tube amps, the band’s energetic lo-fi anthems have a youthful immediacy, their massive hooks curling like breaking waves. It’s a sound that has already won the hearts of Jet Trash’s hometown, The Deli SF voting them one of the best up-and-coming bands of 2014 and The Bay Bridged dubbing them “the cream of the crop” of San Francisco locals.

It’s nice to see new local bands doing well! Enjoy this summer time rock track that’s perfect for jamming while heading to the beach on (rare) hot days in the Bay Area!

Day Wave Releases New Single from Upcoming Debut EP

Posted on:

The Oakland based indie dream pop artist, Day Wave (aka Jackson Phillips) has released a new single entitled We Try But We Don’t Fit In. Day Wave is great at writing charming songs about being awkward. We Try But We Don’t Fit In is melodious and pleasing to the ears. The mix of self depricating lyrics and saccharin sweet tonal progressions can be considered a manifestation of what it’s like to posess a soft side while having to endure the prickly, if not sharp edge of the effects of city life and maintaining balance in an outgoingly aggressive social scene. This awesome artist is set to release his debut EP, Headcase on July 17th. Until then, check out this new track.
