Editor’s Note: I am personally saddened to hear of the closing of Viracocha. I played one of the best shows of my career at the venue and had a wonderful musical experience. They paid my band and I well, we were treated with respect and space’s intimacy was incredibly special. Thanks for creating such a unique music space for acoustic performers. Please attend the community meeting tonight to learn more about the space’s closing and what you can do to help. -je
A Message from Viracocha:
So as most of you know by now, we have closed Viracocha. Not temporarily, but completely, this time. We begin dismantling and demolition this weekend. However… There is still an opportunity to save the Basement Performance Level, and pass it along to the perspective new tenants. But…. we’ve only got TONIGHT! (Monday, August 3rd)
There is a group who wish to save the performance space, and keep it designated for public artistic programming, of all sorts, but the decision to move forward, or ‘call it quits’, needs an answer by the end of this evening.
There will be a community meeting at Viracocha, at 7:30 pm. The perspective tenant, will be on hand to describe their vision, and business plan, for what will, hopefully, inhabit 998 Valencia. They have some financial backing, but not enough to do it on their own.
If you, or anyone you know, might be interested in investing with them, in an effort to keep another SF art space in existence, this is the time. 7:30PM, Tonight.
Please share, and please join us in the discussion.
Also… If you’ve questioned why Viracocha is closing, or what prompts us to leave at this particular time..: answers will be provided. We have not spoken with any Reporters, despite the numerous articles that have come out speculating our decision. Remember, just cause words make it to print, doesn’t mean they are true.
If you want the full story… all will be explained this evening.
