Yassou Releases First of Music Video Series – Fall Again

Posted on:

The San Francisco based avant electro band, Yassou has released a disturbingly creative music video for their single, Fall Again. Yassou has a plan to release a series of five music videos that have been strategically scheduled to be released throughout the upcoming Fall season:

Fall Again (Thursday, August 27)
To Win / YoungBlood (Thursday, September 10)
To Sink (Thursday, September 24)
The Woods (Thursday, October 15)
In These Summer Nights (Thursday, November 5)

It’s been argued that we see music more than we hear music; a phenomenon that began with "Girls On Film" and grows with every viral, visual interpretation that corresponds to an artist’s output. Fully submersing themselves in this ideology, Yassou have taken the opportunity to do what bands and solo artists should have started doing years ago since we moved into a singles culture, and that’s push the video first, and let the music ride its tail. Their release schedule is this: release five videos for five songs. No physical or digital release. That’s it. That’s what the people want. No "album cycle" and no "pre-releases". It’s a consumer-friendly schedule, but even better, the videos are magnificently produced.

Jeff Campbell Prepares to Release New Album – The Kitchen Sink

Posted on:

One of the great things about the San Francisco Bay Area is that there is a diverse array of music genres to choose from. Jeff Campbell is a San Francisco based pop country rock artist who will be releasing his new album, The Kitchen Sink on October 2nd. He strays light years away from the dominate youthful garage rock style of music that you typically find in Oakland and SF and chooses to make pop country rock and roll that is fresh and all his own.

Check out his new single, Fill The Spaces and keep an eye out for his upcoming full length record!

"The song was inspired by the birth of his niece and the thought of her never experiencing an iPhone, Facebook or social media free world where people are tied to and tuned into gadgets instead of each other. The song is a message to live in the moment and fill the spaces with what’s around you instead of worrying about what’s to come and how you’re going to document it." – Jeff Campbell on his song, Fill The Spaces

Amnesia Under New Ownership Successfully Renews Entertainment License

Posted on:

Jesse Woletz, founder of Seaweed Sway and an active booker for Amnesia Events sent us a nice letter to keep The Deli SF readers posted on the renewal of the venue’s entertainment licence:

Last Tuesday, August 18th, small beloved venue in the Mission, Amnesia, renewed their entertainment license, with much support from the SF Bay Area music community.

For those interested, video and audio of the hearing, is available at the link below. There is also a great toast to Shawn Magee, the former owner, who helped to form that community that is Amnesia. After 15 years of tirelessly running the place, he decided to pass it on and move to Mexico with his family. He hand-selected Craig Wathen, as someone who cares about community and wants to keep the music going. Craig and his wife also own City Beer in SOMA. Many musicians who have played at Amnesia over the years spoke at the hearing and wrote letters of support.

All can watch and/or hear the proceedings from the hearing here. The Amnesia discussion starts at around 43 minutes:

A statement from new owner, Craig Wathen:

We are really excited to continue bringing soulful music to the Mission. It is with heartfelt gratitude we thank all the fine people who supported us through this undertaking to keep music alive at Amnesia. We greatly appreciate the San Francisco Entertainment Commission granting us this privilege, and for all the assistance the Commission provided us through the process. Thank you! Amnesia will continue to host "meet the new owner" nights here and there, for those who have any questions. You can find out who’s playing at Amnesia by going to their website, facebook and instagram.

Ezra Furman Releases New Music Video – Lousy Connection

Posted on:

The Oakland based songwriter, Ezra Furman has released a new music video for the band’s new single, Lousy Connection. Ezra’s new song is their commentary on the human connection and how complicated it has become to communicate clearly with others. The video gives its starring role to a number of raw eggs, making the video a bit odd, but that’s to be expected from such an out-of-the-box artist like Furman! The artist’s latest album, Perpetual Motion People is now out on Bella Union.

Perpetual Motion People, Ezra Furman’s first album for Bella Union delivers a cascade of memorably bristling hooks driven by a unique splicing of timeless influences, delivered with a restless urgency and combative spirit that shines through the American’s vocals and lyrics. Having taken his time to work his way into the public consciousness, Furman’s time is unquestionably now, as he finally faces an expectant audience hungry for the next stage of his thrilling approach, on record and on stage.

Enjoy the new music video and head out to Bender’s in San Francisco to see Ezra Furman share a line up with Buzzmutt and Midgetmen on August 29th. By the way, if you’re super boring or very politically correct, this may not be the show for you, but if you’re looking for a unique line up and live music experience this is definitely a show to check out!

Cold Beat Releases New Single In Anticipation Of New Album

Posted on:

The San Francisco electro-pop group, Cold Beat has released a new single entitled, Spirals. This bellowing electronic ballad has been shared in anticipation of the band’s upcoming full length album, Into the Air. Into the Air is due out on September 4th on Crime on the Moon Records.

""Spirals" feels like one of the more honest songs I’ve written. It’s a song describing an emotional state of surrender. I really allowed myself to be vulnerable and express some feelings I might not have had access to in a normal band setting. It’s more intimate. Stepping away from guitars and leaning more towards electronic instruments seems like a natural evolution for the band right now." Hannah Lew, singer-songwriter of Cold Beat

Check out their new single and make sure you pick up an album upon its release!

Premiere: Guy Fox – Antique Furniture

Posted on:

It’s an absolute pleasure for us to premiere the San Francisco based band, Guy Fox‘s new single, Antique Furniture! Guy Fox’s brand of avant indie pop music is always well produced and encompasses unique electro-pop touches that raise the bar for emerging independent artists who yearn to stand out from the crowd. Their upcoming full length album, Night Owl will be released on August 21st! Night Owl embarks into evolutionary territory for the band. Staying true to their signature sound this record is a listenable version of the energetic live set for which they’ve become known for.

Peter Granquist can be found behind the drum lending vocals along Nate Witherbee who also plays host to synthesizer, guitar, piano and song writing. Greg Waters primarily contributes guitar and saxophones, while bassist Charlie Moore accompanies on vocals and synthesizer.

"This album is the labor of nearly two years of recording at Tiny Telephone Studios in Sand Francisco’s Mission District. We sculpted each track over days of recording, using analog equipment to construct the most unusual, ear-catching sounds we could find and recording them to 2 inch tape. The album’s theme is the aimlessness and endless reinvention that is a communal trait of today’s 20-somethings. These themes are set to upbeat, dance grooves, trying to convince the listener that the answer to life’s uncertainties can be found in the release of a good dance party." -Peter Granquist

Golden Void Announces New Album – Berkana

Posted on:

The Bay Area based psychedelic band, Golden Void is preparing to release their sophomore album, Berkana. The new record features Isaiah Mitchell (of Earthless) on lead guitar along with Camilla Saufley-Mitchell on keyboards and vocals, Aaron Morgan on bass, and Justin Pinkerton on Drums.

Golden Void has perfected the psych-metal crunch they’ve been crafting since their 2012 debut. Recorded by Tim Green of The Fucking Champs, Berkana is full of muscular riffs, soaring melodic leads, swirling organs, and a gliding groove – a guitarist’s playground which lead shredder Isaiah Mitchell fully takes to task with an electric energy. The band also shows a remarkable level of restraint and maturity here, patiently adding layer upon layer as the songs develop into thick slabs of sonics well worth digging into.

The album is due out in September 18, 2015 on Thrill Jockey Records. Golden Void will be celebrating their album release at The Chapel on September 19th with Mermen and Kehoe International!
