NOBUNNY Plays Leo´s Music Club – 10/22
We´re excited to announce the Oakland return of NOBUNNY! This legendary band will be playing Leo´s Music Club on October 22nd. Make sure you wear your dancing shoes and enjoy NOBUNNY´s high energy, super fun live show!
Always clad in a fuzzy (and mildly psychotic-looking) rabbit mask and often wearing little else, NOBUNNY is a one-man pop-punk onslaught whose simple, infectiously hooky tunes and lusty outlook have earned comparisons to the Ramones, Hasil Adkins, and the Cramps, and whose untamed (and sometimes bottomless) stage shows have led some to call him a cuddly version of G.G. Allin. NOBUNNY is the alter ego of Justin Champlin, who was born and raised in Tucson, Arizona, and relocated to San Francisco, California.Champlin first made a name for himself as the drummer with garage punks the Okmoniks and later co-founded the Sneaky Pinks, a two-man punk-pop party machine.
Thursday, October 22nd NOBUNNY @ LEO’S MUSIC CLUB 5447 Telegraph Ave. Oakland, CA 8pm // $13 // 18+ TICKETS
Foxtails Brigade Release New Music Video – Far Away and Long Ago
The Oakland based art nouveau indie rock band, Foxtails Brigade has released a lovely and impressively shot music video for their new single, Far Away and Long Ago. This video has a crisp and touching style that is reminiscent of famed director, Stanley Kubrick´s film, Eyes Wide Shut and shares the same title as the 1918 William Henry Hudson novel. The video is sophisticated and compliments this new track´s artsong, classical vibe.
The dynamic, multi-talented group will continue an already busy 2015, having signed to OIM Records earlier this year, with their first full-band full-length self-titled studio record with producer Jeff Saltzman due out in March 2016.
Enjoy this music video for Far Away and Long Ago and make sure you make it to Foxtails Brigade´s upcoming show at Awaken Café on November 21st.
Antique Embarks on The Remember Tour
Local Oakland, CA singer-songwriter, activist and educator Candice "Antique" Davis announced the latest music single from her The Remember Project , Never Again, inspired by her visit to the slave dungeons in Elmina, Ghana.
Listen to the track here:
The Remember Project is a cultural campaign that travels all over the globe engaging artists of the African diaspora in artistic collaboration using art, music, media and dynamic facilitation to promote a Pan-African identity, particularly in countries that were involved in the Transatlantic and Arab slave trades.
Antique explains, "Visiting the slave dungeons in Elmina, Ghana, was such an emotional experience. I felt overwhelmed with grief, sadness and anger. Immediately after that, I went to the studio. I sat there crying and then I felt a rush of words. I wrote the song in 5 minutes. After I wrote it I felt unsure. Then I looked up in the sky and three hawks circling above me. I felt like that was a sign to move forward. I went in the studio and recorded it in one take. I saw it as the ancestors speaking through me."
Antique will be performing at Kingston 11 in Oakland on October 15th.

SF´s Heron Oblivion Signs to Sub Pop Records Tours w/ Kurt Vile
The San Francisco based ¨funeral folk¨ band, Heron Oblivion has signed a worldwide record deal with the Seattle based independent record label, Sub Pop Records. Sub Pop was put on the map for releasing music from Nirvana, Mudhoney, The Shins, Band of Horses, Sleater-Kinney and more. It´s always good to see Bay Area emerging artists doing well! Keep your eyes open for their upcoming 2016 release on Sub Pop and their local shows with Kurt Vile:
Oct. 15 – San Francisco, CA – Slims
Oct. 16 – San Francisco, CA – The Fillmore
Heron Oblivion’s origins date to 2013 in SF’s Bayview district, where its four members– fueled by a love of 60s/70s scuzz and commune jams, folk rock, noise, and P.S.F. Japanese underground—would get together for what Miller describes as "blistering, extended free jam sessions." The four musicians realized that their initial chemistry (which was strong from the outset) was undeniable and it’s vision unified. Heron Oblivion was born.
Ultimately, Heron Oblivion fused song craft to its improvisational leanings. What materialized is a mesmeric compilation of English folk rock and earthy West Coast psychedelia spiked with feedback and explosive dissonant elements. The sum of these elements will make up their Sub Pop debut.
Zodiac Death Valley Celebrates Vinyl Release at BOTH – 10/3
The San Francisco based alternative psych band, Zodiac Death Valley will be celebrating the release of their second album, Desert Bohéme at Bottom of the Hill in San Francisco tomorrow night (October 3rd).
The band will be supported by a great line up that includes: JJUU JJUU (LA), Down and Outlaws (SF) and The Turn Turn Turn (SF members of The Love Dimension, The Lotus Moons, The Gregors). This is going to be one of those nights where you´re going to run into the who´s who of the local music scene.
You´re not going to want to miss Zodiac Death Valley as Nic Abodeely’s entrancing words slither in a deep baritone before thrusting you into honest-to-god rock n’ roll anthemic nirvana and a chorus that will be inside you from then on. Jordan Villa’s guitar work deftly navigates from atmosphere, hook, to solo. Nate Ricker’s keys and organ immediately commands a psychedelic vein pumping throughout the collective musical body. Daniel Burns’ bass comes in crashing the party with a thunderous chug while Landon Cisneros (drums) and Tyler Jones (percussion) bring the drums that will have you hungover the next day.
Head down to Bottom of the Hill in San Francisco tomorrow night!

Song Premiere: Seth Lael – Big Country
We´re proud to premiere a new song from the San Francisco based singer/songwriter, Seth Lael. Upon the release of his brand new album, Bird Strings, we have an exclusive new track from the album entitled, Big Country. This song is charming, simplistic and fun to listen to!
Seth Lael, a passionate singer-songwriter who has a bit of a soft-spot for the underdog. (don’t we all?) Lael brings 12 brand new songs to life in his second full-length, Bird Strings. His music marries Americana, Jazz, Folk, Pop, and Indie Rock into a definitive perspective of life. His commentary comes straight from the tips of his fingers on guitar, mandolin, and banjo, passing through to his modern/retro vocal delivery of honest, heartfelt lyrics.
I’ve spent the last 5 years working as a sound recordist documenting inspiring people ranging from Bobby Seal to the founder of the Black Panthers to Bill Gates. I’ve also spent time with working class folks struggling to make ends meet in hospitals, courtrooms, and on the road learning about what goes on in these 50 states. These songs are my reflections of those experiences. – Lael on his new album, Bird Strings
"After traveling to some of the poorest countries in the world, I began to look more closely at what we have within our own borders. It’s been especially eye opening to realize how diverse we are in the US. For example, in my city of San Francisco, you can attend a street fair promoting kinky sex and somewhere else in the same country, you have fairs promoting guns. There is something for everyone, and whether it’s viewed as a positive or negative is up to one’s personal belief. You don’t have these freedoms in most parts of the world, and I find many people could be more appreciative of this." – Lael on Big Country

Premiere: Ghost & the City – Steady Trippin
The Oakland based soulful jazz ensemble, Ghost & the City has released a new song entitled, Steady Trippin. Here´s your chance to listen to an amazing local jazz group who has consistently released well composed, entrancing music!
Oakland outfit Ghost & the City is dedicated to elevating style and experience to create music that embodies elements of soul, trip-hop and jazz. Traveling across numerous musical genres to appeal to many tastes, Ghost & the City creates music that defies conventionality, yet solidifies a distinctive sound. Over the past five years, the project has successfully performed at venues all over the Bay Area, supporting such acts as Shabazz Palaces, Hiatus Kaiyote, Incognito and Marco Benevento. This year will see the release of Patchwork Soul, a 6-song EP that features fresh collaborations and a new direction.
Musician and composer, Ash Maynor and the awesome vocalist, Kia Fay have given us the opportunity to share this new song with you and we love the sound, style and vibe of this sensual trip hop inspired track. Steady Trippin is a free download via Soundcloud so you can listen to this track straight from your hard drive whenever you desire!
"Lyrically it reflects struggles with self-doubt as an artist, those moments when you’re really just ready to throw in the towel. The concept of "Steady Trippin" comes from the idea of feeling caught in limbo, a place where you aren’t walking but you’re aren’t quite falling, and yet you still find yourself moving forward" – Kia Fay
"With this tune we were trying to capture the ideal blend of jazz + trip-hop, both genres we’ve been exploring more with our new EP Patchwork Soul. The track features trumpeter Ross Eustis (Brass Magic, Guy Fox) doing what he does best, and largely reminiscent of Guru’s Jazzmatazz volumes." – Ash Maynor
Ghost & the City has a string of local shows coming up. Make sure you catch this band live!
9/26 – OMF Festival w/ Anderson .Paak, Trails & Ways and more
11/6 – Leo’s Music w/ Zakiya Harris
