¨I want to build a community of like-minded artists in the Bay Area. We’ll be featuring bands, artist, projections, dancers, djs and public speakers talking about the real issues in SF and what we can do about them. The Residency is starting to become a staple and cult classic in our thriving Bay Area music scene. I loved how hard it was to pick which acts to have on the lineups. There are so many talented bands in the Bay that I actually had to add two dates to accommodate the amount of bands. I could easily could have had a year long DDS Residency.

My expectations for this years residency is to inspire more people to become apart of the Bay Area music scene. I would like to attend more local shows after this month and have the residency artists collaborate and network long after this residency.¨ -Kyle DeMartini of Down Dirty Shake

Emily Jane White plays the Elbo Room – 06/22

Posted on:

The Oakland based artist, Emily Jane White will be performing live at Elbo Room on June 22nd to support her upcoming album, They Moved in Shadow All Together LP.

They Moved in Shadow All Together was recorded at Tiny Telephone studio in San Francisco, CA, and New and Improved studio in Oakland, CA, between December 2013 and September 2015. Emily Jane White is a musician, songwriter, and poet from Oakland, CA. White’s new body of work recounts for us the terrain of her empathic inner world. The breadth and depth of her maturing voice are evident. Her layered vocals effect a sense of camaraderie, a space populated with voices, angelic perhaps, definitively ethereal. She studied classical singing while working on this album, which enabled her to broaden her vocal range.

Track Premiere: Mark Allen-Piccolo – Do For You

Posted on:

We’re always pleased to premiere new Bay Area music! This moment is no different as we premiere the new single by the San Francisco based singer-songwriter, Mark Allen Piccolo. Allen-Piccolo´s smooth indie ballad, Do For You is charming, well produced and sonically relatable. He sings about how the reality of life can be predictable and limiting. He attemps to challenge the status quo in his own thoughtful and non intrusive musical manner.

Please support local musicians. It gets harder and harder by the year to work and create in the Bay Area. We’re always here to celebrate local music and make sure emerging artists have a voice. -je

¨Life is full of routine, responsibilities, demands from other people. Usually, you’re so busy that you don’t even have time to think about what it all means or adds up to. The song is a kind of dream about being freed from these responsibilities, and imagining what your life could be like if you could spend all of your time exploring your inner life–even better, exploring it with a companion who truly accepts you for who you are."Mark Allen-Piccolo on his single, Do For You

TREAT, the forthcoming LP from Kendra McKinley, is a feast for the senses. Her colorful compositions, featuring an assemblage of instruments both classical and electric, possess the vibrancy and imagination of 1960’s psychedelic pop whilst still reflecting the sonic explorations of her contemporaries. PLUSH to Perform as King Woman´s Special Guest at Starline Social Club – 6/19

Posted on:

The Oakland based band, King Woman will be finishing out their current tour with Wax Idols in their home town at Starline Social Club on June 19th.

Miserable songwriter and all around underground goth goddess, Kristina Esfandiari has lead King Woman into an amazing career. With that said, the band has not left behind their local community behind as they invited special guest, the promising local underground independent band, PLUSH to perform for their upcoming show. It goes without saying this is going to be a local show that shouldn´t be missed. It´s cool to see King Woman supporting local bands!

CUBE Prepares to Release New Album

Posted on:

CUBE is an experimental electronic music project from Adam Keith of Oakland, California. We´re exctied for his upcoming album My Cube which is due out on June 24th via Left Hand Path.

Cube’s first release came back in 2010, a self-released tape called Cubicle Rites. Since then, Keith has released numerous cassette tapes through his own imprint; through Human Conduct, a Baltimore experimental label; and through Digitalis, a prolific Oklahoma label, among others. Musically, he touches on industrial, dub, techno, noise, and more, but does so with a distinctly personal, emotional touch — the spirit of a singer-songwriter lurks underneath his waves of distortion.

My Cube is Cube’s first vinyl LP, and it is a multifaceted, kaleidoscopic listen, containing a multitude of moods and atmospheres. It sounds like the West Coast’s answer to Container, and will appeal to fans of Aussie synth-punks Total Control just as much as it will to fans of Regis, Silent Servant, and their seminal Downwards record label. Side A begins with a noisy scree, giving way to "Favorite," a riotous post-punk storm of churning guitars and drum machines, and ends with the all-too-brief techno beauty of "Opaque." Flip the record over and you’ll hear the piston-like beats and searing guitar of "Bargain Water"; soon comes the heavy, dancefloor-ready "Auto / Composite Face Fetish." If industrial music is less a sound than an attitude, then My Cube sounds like a rallying cry for the modern age.

Ahleuchatistas Black Spirituals IMA and Tonal Masher Play Starline Social Club – 5/26

Posted on:

We´re intensely excited about the upcoming line up at Oakland´s Starline Social Club on May 26th. If you´re a music listener who is always on the look out for a unique live music experience, this show is the event to catch:

Oakalnd´s BLACK SPIRITUALS is a collaboration between two soloists who have found a new platform for the intersection of tone-generating electronic technology and the heart-thumping technology of acoustic percussion. This duet features a new tradition in conversant, duo vernacular dynamics that sparked a revolution in our conceptions of space, stage, ritual, performance, geography, praxis, brotherhood, relationships, rockin’ out and more. AHLEUCHATISTAS (Asheville NC) is guitarist Shane Parish and drummer Ryan Oslance on a musical odyssey of pure imagination, limitless in influences, combining tight-knit composition with improvisation, and delivering powerful live shows. The project was founded in 2002 and has evolved organically as the muse leads through the creative sonic continuum…

IMA [ii-ma] 今. 瞬間: the electro-percussion duo of Amma Ateria and Nava Dunkelman explores distortions of time and handling of the ever present moment through restraint and release. Their array of metallic nature march forth with space expanding densities to brinks of breakage, situated to be caressed by the beautification of spaces in between. IMA have performed and collaborated with avant garde pioneers such as John Zorn, Fred Frith, Ikue Mori, and many others. TONAL MASHER is the solo electroacoustic project of Aram Shelton. By removing the mouthpiece and reed, Shelton explores a different aspect of a 1937 Conn alto saxophone. Starting with feedback generated via saxophone, microphone and amplifier, Shelton uses nontraditional fingerings to coax an instrument specific set of tones from the vintage horn. The resultant music features patient polyphony from a generally monophonic instrument, and highlights the percussive aspects of the saxophone via key clicks and pad thumps.

Panic is Perfect Release New Remix – You´re Alive (Cavego Remix)

Posted on:

The San Francisco based band, Panic is Perfect has released a new remix for their single, You´re Alive! Make sure you take a listen and keep an eye out for the band´s upcoming shows and music.

The “panic” in Panic Is Perfect has a lot more to do with adrenaline than it does with anxiety. On the San Francisco-based band’s debut full-length Cellspace, there’s a sense of urgent wonder that drives the unique, eclectic and undeniably accessible songs. It’s something also apparent in the band’s legendary live show, which is known for captivating audiences with instrumental sagas, high-energy percussion and soulful grooves that make it nearly impossible to stand still. The band sums it up aptly, describing their own music as: “finding a fire that burns bright enough to transcend your life; finding joy that can burn through the sorrow.”

"’You’re Alive’ is about finding joy through pain and how sometimes those two things can exist together at the same time. We filmed part of this video at one of our shows in San Francisco. As a band, our most joyful moments are on stage playing music for people. We we really wanted to capture a little piece of that experience in this video." – Mike Hoffman
