PREMIERE: We Are Parasols – “No Movement”

Posted on:

On this gloriously sunny Friday the 13th, the Deli would like to cloak the sun’s bright rays with a new, darkwavey track from We Are Parasols. "No Movement" guides you through its aphotic tones, baiting you with low tempos and hauntingly angelic vocals. Brooding and moody, the track is both calming and chill while still provoking sonic interest.

The satisfyingly hypnotic video for "No Movement" is hard not to zone out to. Its black and white cyclical machine work visuals calls for a droned mental state. As the second single to come off We Are Parasol’s upcoming debut Infrastructure, "No Movement" makes a lasting impression as an indicator of the band’s potential output, and more than substantiates their place in Portland’s darker scene.

Infrastructure comes out May 20th on the bands’ No Movement Records. Check out the video for "No Movement" below.

Animal Eyes are back with ‘Where We Go’

Animals Eyes have made a glorious musical return with their first album since 2013’s Ursus. With Where We Go, the band has reached one of their highest points musically as its songs pack a heavy emotional punch, supported by an elevated production. They’ve really come into their own with this one, which is why their album/vinyl release show at Mississippi Studios tomorrow is more than worth attending.

Their live set is captivating, and with Fauna Shade and Sama Dams, there will be much to enjoy. Tickets are $5 and music starts at 9pm so show up on time! Below is the first track to come off Where We Go, titled "Mushroom Hunter."

Mattress is back with a new track, “Fuck the Future”

Posted on:

Mattress‘ low, loungey tones have been a favorite around town since he started a few years ago. Mixing the Vegas appeal of Tom Jones in a nightclub with the sensually deep vocality of Nick Cave and a bit of Jamie Stewart’s eccentricity, Rex Marshall has filled a niche we didn’t even know was empty.

Yesterday, he released a new, somewhat nihilistic track called "Fuck the Future." It’s sentimentally exactly how it sounds – a catchy diddy that’s more about living in the moment than worry about all the crap that’s coming later.

His track release show is tomorrow at the Liquor Store with Roselit Bone and Jenny Don’t & the Spurs (who are also releasing a split that night!), and his new album (recorded in Isaac Brock’s studio) is due out this summer on Brock’s label, Glacial Pace Recordings

Listen to the track below and be sure to get to the Liquor Store on time since Mattress opens up the night’s bill.

Get your low key dance on at the Liquor Store tomorrow

Posted on:

Combine the resonating sounds of Mamai with the soul tinged dream pop of Ellis Pink and 80’s-esque electronica stylings of Fringe Class and you’ve got the makings for a chill night of swaying. It’ll be the funkiest thing to do on a Tuesday and for $6, definitely not a bad way to take in an evolving music scene in the city. Be at the Liquor Store at 9pm so you don’t miss any part of this 21+ show.

Saturday Night Sounds: Rotties – “Dead”

Posted on:

Rotties just dropped their sophomore self titled album last month and it’s every bit of what we’ve been fiending for from them since their debut three years ago. Featuring a cover of the Gits‘ "Second Skin," their second album is full of jams that make you both want to push and pogo around and girate about all at the same time.

Tonight we’re sharing the album’s closer, "Dead," which is an ideal mix of raw punk with grooving elements and a straight forward vocality. Give it a go below.

10th Annual St. Johns Bizarre announces stacked lineup

Posted on:

The 10th annual St. Johns Bizarre is coming up with a pretty stacked lineup of varied Portland acts. The nine hour neighborhood festival will be headlined by old school Portlanders Quasi, on their only West Coast appearance for their upcoming tour in support of the repressing of three of their classic LPs. Best new artist Chanti Darling will also soulfully take the stage, along with pop rockers Minden, a nice bit of indie-folk with the Domestics, and the lighthearted garage pop of Patsy’s Rats.

The St. Johns Bizarre will also feature over 100 local vendors for their expanded craft fair, the first appearance of Circus Cascadia teaching circus skills like tightrope walking, stilting and clowning, and of course, their locally sponsored beer (and cider!) garden.

Downtown St. Johns will be blocked off from 10am-7pm on May 14th for the free event, in conjuncture with the St. Johns Parade.

Muscle and Marrow debut new track, announce 2nd album

Posted on:

Muscle and Marrow barreled onto the scene with 2014’s The Human Cry, with rave reviews. The pair, consisting of vocalist and guitarist Kira Clark and drummer and sampler Keith McGraw took their sound to various stages in support of the album last year, including a raving performance at the 2015 PDX Pop Now Festival as well as playing to a packed house with True Widow at White Owl. Whether you deem them as metal, experimental or some sort of dark folk, it’s undeniable that their emotive sounds evoke a contradictive chaotic calm.

Lucky for us, Muscle and Marrow premiered a new track yesterday via She Shreds. Coming off their upcoming sophmore effort, Love, "Bereft Body" builds up with a quiet vocality from Clark, leading into a cacophonic spree of instrumental emotion that suddenly stops, leaving desire.

Love comes out May 27th on The Flenser. Dive into "Bereft Body" below.

Saturday Night Sounds: Kool Stuff Katie – “You Found a Friend”

Posted on:

Back in March, Kool Stuff Katie dropped their indelible sophomore effort, It’s Fine. The top notch follow up to their self titled debut holds as a true definitive of the duo’s pleasant mashup of garage, pop and indie rock influences.

Saren Oliver’s candy sweet vocals and drum pounding pleasantly pair with Shane Blem’s chill shred and croon, to result in an infectiously catchy output of rock tinged pop. Their latest to drop off It’s Fine, titled "You Found a Friend," premiered in video form yesterday afternoon. The cleanly shot video perfectly matches the song’s theme, showing Blem and Oliver as friends just hangin out.

Kool Stuff Katie played tonight at Kelly’s Olympian with Comanche Joey and Trick Sensei. Check out the video below to get your fix if you didn’t make it to the show!
