Two months before the band releases it’s EIGHTH studio album End Times, the group is allowing fans to download "Little Bird". This is the first single off the upcoming album due in stores January 19, 2010.

Singer/songwriter Sara Lov has been resting from finishing nearly two months of touring with Sea Wolf, but in a couple weeks she’ll be back at the Hotel Cafe playing her brand of sweet pop-folk to a hometown crowd.

On December 12th, let your inner schizo have a field day. Up on the shoegazing spectrum are Shiloe (former recipients of The Deli LA’s Band of the Month poll), playing a throwback to ’80s post-punk. Later, break out the Aqua Net and glitter, then kick on the craziest boots you can possibly find to ready yourself in all the glam-rock aesthetics of theSTART (think west coast Goldfrapp). Once the confusion has overwhelmed itself, prepare for new-psychers Mellowdrone. Honestly, we don’t know who the hell put this bill together, but we like it. Add a Peruvian throat-singing act and you’ve got yourself a KCRW playlist.
“Hello my name is Martin,” said bassist of 3-piece band The Dares as he mingled with the girls in the front row of their set Sunday night at the Troubadour. If they’re new to you, the Whittier-based trio landed a major label contract with Jive records before they even finished high school and scored a gig at the Winter Olympics Torch Event in 2002.
They even hold a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records for the first concert to take place simultaneously in two places at the same time. After Sunday night’s Troub performance, it’s easy to see why they’re still around: Their traditional pop-punk is actually refreshing from the genre’s takeover of whiny vocals from the past decade. Pretend for just one moment that all the polluted ash falling outside is snow and that your Starbucks seasonal beverage is actually home made. Then listen to AM’s cover of "Christmas Time Is Here," which is an updated version of the Charlie Brown favorite, with magic and happy ooziness still intact. It’s a part of AM’s new holiday EP "Holiday, Happiness and Cheer," which The Deli highly recommends you purchase here.
Pop music this rich and quirky is always notable. Globes on Remote are freaks of melody and bold texture, with nods to "So"-era Peter Gabriel to contemporaries like Arcade Fire and the big landscapes of My Morning Jacket. While Globes on Remote’s sound is mostly groove based, it’s the decoration and fresh vocals that are incredibly hook-worthy. To be "catchy" and retain a kind of mystery is a hard continuum to meet.
The Living Sisters are rather enigmatic. Information on them is scarce, and it’s hard to find a reason why considering this trio of vocalists are about as good as "supergroups" can get. Inara George (of The Bird and the Bee), Becky Stark (of Lavender Diamond) and Eleni Mandell (of …Eleni Mandell) make up what is seemingly a throwback pop outfit (we say "seemingly" because only one track exists in the ether, "How Glad I Am," featured on their MySpace page) — and they’re sharing the stage with Brian Wilson on December 6th at Disney Hall. In this age of over saturation, consider this a rare kind of intrigue.
In hopes of raising funds for the non-profit Children’s Music Fund, country blog When You Awake and the Bootleg Theatre are hosting a Friday night bill loaded with local acts playing Neil Young favorites. Acts include The Chapin Sisters, Delta Spirit, Restevrant, The Parson Redheads and a ton of others. Save the music simply by coming out and enjoying it. For $45 (just hear us out), enjoy unlimited tastings from over 35 breweries and live sets from Great Northern, Nico Stai, Castledoor and other Deli LA favorites all day Saturday at the Music Box in this year’s Hollywood Brewfest (21+, tickets can be purchased here). At face value, it’s a steep entry fee, but it’s all day buzz-pacing, a great bill and all the booze you can responsibly consume. This is bang-for-your-buck at its finest.

On the heels of the release of their debut LP "At Night You Love Me," blues rock-based Regrets & Brunettes are playing some local dates to preview fresh material. The relatively new group (their MySpace page dates them as seven months old) have already turned some heads with recent opening slots for Delta Spirit and The Henry Clay People, but the newfound attention could also be owed to vocalist Richard Bivens’s technique of playing a right-handed guitar in left-hand method. Now that’s how you get the ladies.
Regrets and Brunettes channel the melodic eccentricity of Brian Wilson with the grit of Neil Young, and they’re not shy to wear it on their sleeves. As pop for the more distorted crowd, they’re worthy of a listen (or even a glimpse of aformentioned technique), so jot Nov. 30 for their set at The Echo. They share an impressive bill with Seasons and Downtown/Union.

Horse Stories | Hummingbird (We’ll Be Okay)
Horse Stories (project of singer/songwriter and producer Toby Burke) is for the fragile sort: under all the delicate layers of Burke’s quiet pop compositions are sinking themes ("We all heal so slow / that it aches") that evoke darker Cat Stevens and of more contemporary Wilco. The warm recordings of Horse Stories latest (and most critically acclaimed) release "November, November" will have its LA previews this Thursday at Three Clubs and during a free set at Origami Vinyl on Saturday.
Thomas’ Apartment released their third full-length album this past week. Entitled Tuesday Night Lights, the album is concerned one of their most emotionally releases to date.
The band has released a few free tracks from Tuesday Night Lights on their website. They encourage you to listen to them and tell a friend. I would personally recommend the band’s three album package for ONLY $20. What a deal!

Pablove Across America Benefit Concert
Pablove Across America, a cycling journey across the US for pediatric cancer research/awareness, will be hosting a benefit concert on Saturday, November 21.
Pablove Across America was founded by Dangerbird Records’ co-founder Jeff Castelaz and his wife in honor and memory of their late son, Pablo. The program
The benefit concert will be held at Avalon (Hollywood) on November 21 and will feature acoustic sets by an all-star roster.
