Looking forward to the tail end of summer is a sentiment that is not shared by most.  However, with Funeral Party‘s new album "Golden Age of Nowhere" releasing on August 30th, I have a feeling that quite a few of us will be counting down the days. 

The soulful pop lad and his merry band of minstrels, Fitz and the Tantrums are holding down the Thursday-night residency at Spaceland this gloomy June. Get out to Silverlake tonight to watch the sparks fly! Check out the video for “Winds of Change” above. Another stop-motion music clip, but clever nonetheless. 

Rumble this Thursday at the 3 of Clubs: Piano-driven indie pop at its finest, Chasing Kings are a quartet of young, eager, sincere guys who bring an infectious energy to their live sets that won’t disappoint. Openers Gamble House paint a colorfully subdued musical backdrop with twinkling arpeggios, warm strings, foggy trumpets and reverb-heavy vocals behind a sound reminiscent of Grizzly Bear. Inland Empire-based trio Francisco the Man has been on the scene for the past couple of years, drawing in fans with their roots based indie folk rock. For a free show you really can’t go wrong.

Deli faves The Henry Clay People celebrate the release of their latest piece de resistance, Somewhere on the Golden Coast, at Spaceland Tuesday night. On the new album they bring back their fervor and boundless enthusiasm for rocking out.

I’m not asking too much of you on this fine Friday morning.  Watch this video, eat some breakfast, gather some funds and began ruminating on how you will get yourself to Spaceland this evening at 8.  I’m really not that demanding.  The Golden Filter and Robotanists will thank you.

Echo Park duo Rainbow Arabia announced their June residency with a line-up of killer free shows featuring the likes of Gary Wilson, Japanther, Weave!, Former Ghosts, 60 Watt Kid, and more including secret guest headliners who will soon be revealed. It’s free at the Echo every Monday in June!

Deli LA favorite, Angie Mattson is due to make audience members swoon at The Silverlake Lounge on June 10th.  While seeing her live is already quite a pleasure, seeing her two days after her new album "Skeleton Arm" comes out is sure to be quite an experience. 

I couldn’t think of anything more enjoyable to do with my highly anticipated summer nights than going to see The Parson Red Heads live, and in concert.  The band just released their summer tour schedule onto their myspace.  They play tonight at Spaceland and again on June 9th at the Troubador. 

LA’s next dynamic duo Mad Planet releases their new album "All Elephants" this Thursday, May 27 at the 3 of Clubs. The event is free and performances start around 9pm. Mad Planet is hip-hop with an ethereal female vocalist and a male emcee with a smooth flow, backed by synths and samples. 

Local Natives return home from a US tour for two sold-out shows at the Troubadour and the Bootleg Theater on June 4 and 5. After rocking an afternoon set on the final day of Coachella the boys headed out across the frontier for more than a month of solid touring. After they play these two dates back home, they head across the pond, embarking on a European tour until September. So if you’re aching to see these guys, wait at will-call, finagle favors or ring whoever you know because it’ll be a while before you get another chance. 

Guys and gals, I present to you…a show that must not be missed.  letlive, Graf Orlock and Touche Amore will be showing their wares at the Chain Reaction this Saturday, May 22nd.  Prepare yourself for unbridled energy and a group of gents that care tremendously about the music they create. 

It’s no surprise a long line is quickly forming outside The Echo of those waiting to get The Henry Clay People experience. Not even an unannounced January freak storm could stop fans from packing the beloved east-side hideout beyond fire hazard capacity. When a band has as much hype and scars as this Glendale-based new Americana group, packed shows are the norm.
